People Watching

This week I have spent a few mornings collecting for the Red Shield Appeal, outside a supermarket, in a set up just the same as this one.

All of that sitting allows for some serious people watching.
Last Saturday I noticed that nearly every woman I saw was wearing "active wear". This week, not so much.
All the take away coffees were in the same type of cup so I guess there is one place with the good coffee.
I saw one young woman in a truly beautiful outfit and I would have told her so but she wouldn't meet my eye. The outfit was a long flowing blue velvet skirt with a floral blouse and short boots.
I saw a young mum run back to the shop for a forgotten bag of shopping. I had seen her with two littlies but she didn't come back with the children and had probably left them in the car after belting them in. I recognised her panicked look.
I think that middle aged women are the only people who wear horizontal stripes and why do they? do horizontal stripes look good on anyone?

  1. I love people watching. It's one of my favorite pastimes, especially if I have a cup of good coffee.

  2. I am a huge people watcher (and listener). I also tell people when I can how good they look.
Thank you for your work with the Sallies. During the last war my mother's home in Birmingham was bombed. She spent two days under it, and said that the Salvation Army were there when she was extricated, and gave her a cup of very welcome coffee. She always supported them, and I do too.

    1. Thanks for always being so positive, EC.
I'm glad there was help for your mum at such a horrible time, I also hope that as an organisation we continue to help in a significant way

  4. I wrote a similar post such as this about observations of shopping carts and was put down by dozens of people for being judgmental. No, I was no more judgmental than you. I was accused of being a lonely, nosy bitch.

However, some came to defend me, saying they have nothing else to do when in line or sitting. They only defended me about a week later when the bullying did not stop.

I wear horizontal stripes. It all depends on how wide the stripes are, I think.

    1. Linda,
I have noticed it is extremely rare for an online bully to be confronted and they crop up anywhere.
maybe it is all in the stripe width, I must observe :)

  5. I was going to make the same comment as LL Cool Joe.

I would have asked the name of the superior coffee shop.

    1. One of the restauranteurs gave me a free coffee so if I am ever in that centre again I will go to his shop. My daughter did a work trial with another cafe and said they were terrible so I know which one it wasn't :)

  6. Horizontal stripes look good on football players who play for Glasgow Celtic, Reading, Doncaster Rovers and Queens Park Rangers.

  7. The Salvation Army Charity Shop near me is amazingly cheap. Most of the other charity shops I go to have rather arbitrary prices e.g. I saw a navy and white striped horizontal t-shirt last week and they wanted £5.50 for it! Of course, I resisted and got a brand new sleeveless one in M&S for £4.50!It's all about the stripes this side of the pond this summer, no matter what age you are!

    1. Charity shops do seem to have some very pricey items and I wonder if the people who set the prices have bought anything recently or have any idea of the market.
      Enjoy your stripes!
