Adaptation

Harry has been here for almost six months now. When he came here he was terrified of the grass. He quickly learned to walk on it but it was only this week that he first got brave enough to lie down on it for a little sleeping and sunbaking.
The other first this week was a trip to the river, which he loved more than our retriever ever did. He came out of the water smiling and tail wagging but pouring blood out of some deep oyster cuts.
As the pain set in he became very quiet and didn't get up for most of the next day but then (our) dinner time came and he hauled himself off his bed to make sure we were ok.
Hopefully you can see that he bravely found a way to check on our food safety and keep the weight off his poor injured footsies!

  1. Poor Harry. I am glad that he was able to drag himself from his bed of pain to look after you.

      Welcome to eclectica.
He is already a lot better so I'm pleased I took the photo when I did :)

  4. (Sorry about the errors above)
I bet the local bitches have the hots for Harry, dressed as he is in a smart Greg Norman golfing jumper! What's his handicap? (Apart from his poorly paw)

  5. I've never heard of a dog that was frightened of grass. I wonder what incident in his earlier life gave rise to that? Good that the grass is now losing its terrors and he's working out how to enjoy it.

    1. Being an ex-racer, I suspect he spent most of his time in a concrete kennel. You would think there might have been some running on grass though, wouldn't you?

  6. We have a tiered back yard and when Shelby, the dog, first came to live here, it terrified her. Now it is her personal Pride Rock. Well it is for the 10 minutes she will stay outside before going stir crazy to get back to safety inside "her" house.

    1. Did you have a delusion that it could be your house?
I can imagine she would enjoy the tiers, every dog we have had likes to stand on the edge of the deck. It's only a foot higher than the yard but it counts!

  7. Oh poor Harry, but his coat is very smart. :D

Having a dog that's terrified of grass can't be easy, I'm glad he's getting used to it now.

    1. You are right, fear of grass quite noticeable when it leads to bad toileting habits!
I hope to add some bling to his wardrobe and when did I get interested in dog fashions??

  8. That's one phobia I have not encountered. You certainly are a very caring person.
