Benita

Benita Collings was a presenter on childrens television show Play School before I was born and I grew up watching her. By the time she accepted the award for Most Outstanding Achievement in Children's Television in 1998 she was entertaining my own children.
On the awards night, Benita made the bold choice to wear a sheer dress. Soon after that she was "interviewed" for the gardening show "Burke's Backyard" and I was shocked as well as horrified to see Don Burke commenting on the dress.....
and how good she looked in it......
even at "her age."

I think he actually referenced her breasts.

He almost forgot that she won an award, in fact, even worse than forgetting I think he used the award as the excuse for inviting her on his show and humiliating her. It was stunning and sickening to watch but nobody seemed to notice.

Today I woke to the news that Don Burke has been named as Australia's Harvey Weinstein, the stories of abuse and harassment are so dreadful nobody could possibly make it up.

Whatever consequence Don Burke faces, it will not be harsh enough.

  1. Isn't awful that it's taken so many years for all these creepy perverts to finally be exposed for what they really are. Of course in the UK we had one of the worst cases with a dj called Jimmy Saville who spent his whole life getting away with the most awful cases of rape and abuse against children and died before being exposed as one of the worse pedophiles in the world.

    1. I read about Jimmy Saville. Just looking at him, he was a creep. It's a shame he died before justice was done

  2. I saw the story today. And not only should he face consequences, so should all the executives who apparently knew just how vile he was, but put profits first.
    Hiss and spit.

  3. Was Don Burke in that clip? That dress was sheer over a solid garment or lining. I cannot believe anyone would mention it. Pig! Do you have the clip of her on Don Burke's show with him? I hope many more people are exposed. I should start myself. #MEETOO

    1. Don wasn't in the clip, I tried to find that one but couldn't. This is just the awards ceremony.
Don Burke's interview was a horrible display and it would now seem to be one of his mildest moments

  5. What started with Weinstein now seems to have gathered a will of its own with skeletons falling out of cupboards all over the world. In India too some big names, particularly in academia have now been booked and one Vice Chancellor is already on his way out. Good that this is happening.

    1. Isn't it amazing how fast something can gather momentum, it just needs people to be interested!
I'm glad it is happening in so many places.

  6. Hello from Alberta, Canada ... Makes me sick to read every new day about some new sexual harassment by somebody to somebody ... cuz it stinks of a smoke screen propaganda move in order to "entertain" peeps so they don't pay attention of what else is going on in this world ... Love, cat.

    1. Welcome, cat!
You are right, of course. The collective conscious can only be devoted to the things we know about and there are certainly lots of things we don't know.
While we pay attention to sexual harassment we bring light into the world, women will spend less energy worrying about harassment and their energy will be freed up for important things. Men will be spending less energy on what will slowly become more futile and they will also devote more energy to better things. One day there will be enough light to illuminate all of the evil.

  7. I seriously doubt there is a woman my age who has not been subjected to harassment in the workplace before. I personally am so glad this is coming to a head. Maybe the men in the "Boys Club" will get the message that this is not only inappropriate but will not be tolerated anymore.
