old & new, same & different

The house smells of mangoes,
there is a stinking, macabre fly trap on the deck,
tomorrow will be 36 disgusting celcius degrees,
there is trifle in the fridge,
the beautiful, new white Christmas tree is lost among guitar, amp and music stands,
left over punch sits on the table because it won't fit in the fridge.

It must be Christmas.

I think I have been to a Christmas day service at the same church for 45 out of 46 Christmases but not this year.
The amalgamated church will have a half hour service and it's a half hour drive away so not a good investment in my book.
Christmas Eve barbecue, brass band and carols will be new. Maybe this will become a tradition. It has to be as worthy as my previous Christmas Eves madly wrapping gifts, sweating in the kitchen and falling into the couch to watch the carols from Melbourne's Myer Music Bowl, so much classier than Sydney's carols in the Domain.

For those who are interested, this is the trifle recipe I made today.  It was light and delicious and generously sized. I made my  own yogurt and because I forgot to organise it earlier, it set only just in time. Five and a half hours must be a record and the bonus was I got to eat fresh warm yogurt as I constructed the trifle.

  3. Your trifle looks delightful - and reminds me that it is too many years since I have had one.
We are aiming for 35 today - and 23 tomorrow. Much more better.
And today I will be making fruit salad. Lots and lots of fruit salad. And nibbling as I chop and prepare fruit.
I hope Christmas treats you and yours very, very kindly.

    1. I wanted to do an EC inspired fruit salad but blew the fruit budget on cherries!

eat as much as you put in the bowl, it takes twice as long but tastes great :)

  6. That trifle looks delicious. We have a 30 minute drive to church for an hour and half service, which to me is too looong! Happy Christmas to you Kylie!
