Golden Wedding Anniversary

On Saturday, my mum & dad will reach the milestone of 50 years married and despite their protestations, I decided to organise a low-key get together to celebrate.
I thought of a few venues I thought would be nice but they were terrible communicators and didn't seem to want the business.
I stumbled across a caterer who does some fabulous looking food but I wasn't sure about where to eat said fabulous food.

I found a very local company which brings high tea, including tables, cloths, crockery etc to your venue then packs it all up and does the dishes at the end. That sounds like a service I would want but I still didn't have a venue.......

I eventually decided on the RSL club not far from them. It's not fancy but the food is decent, there is on-site parking and good access for me and the elderly folks. The thing that really won me over was the fact that the function co-ordinator actually phoned back!

We are not able to use a function room because the get-together will be at lunch time but I thought we could create a little bit of separation from the other patrons by using the balcony.

Now there is a polar vortex forecast for the weekend and the balcony idea isn't looking so hot!

  1. Polar Vortex?!! Noooo! It's supposed to be Spring. I think it's lovely that you have organised this for your Mum and Dad - many congratulations to them! I hope you have a wonderful time and that the polar vortex goes somewhere else. Other than the UK, I don't want it here, I am selfish like that.

    1. A polar vortex in Sydney is probably like spring weather for you UK people but still a bit chilly for us!
I'll try to send it somewhere.....the Whitehouse?

  2. Good that you are doing this. Had my late wife been alive, we too would have celebrated our golden anniversary this year.

  3. Well I just learned something - I didn't realize you experienced a polar vortex where you live! And of course with spring coming for us fall and winter will be coming your way. I hope the venue turns out ok even if you have to move indoors.

  4. OH NO! It was all sounding so lovely until that last sentence!!

I hope it all works out. Can the function coordinator make any alternative suggestions, perhaps?

Congratulations to your parents - fifty years is indeed a milestone and speaks well of their ability to give and take :)

    1. there may be heaters outdoors, they are popping up all over the place ....or we'll go inside. It will lose a little on atmosphere but still be ok.

    1. we don't really "do" celebrations, maybe a hang over from their parents all toughing it through the depression or maybe the old protestant austerity.

anyways, I'm trying to change that t his time, they deserve some little acknowledgement

  8. I am still a peasant and call a polar vortex a cold snap. Have fun with the celebration even if you are bound to the indoors!

  9. Hope it all goes well. Fifty years together is quite a milestone. I wonder if Jenny and I will manage to endure each other for half a century? Hopefully the polar vortex will pass you by and decide to visit Auckland instead.

    1. We got a cold snap which is making me pleased it's at midday, much warmer than at night.
You and Jenny enjoy your life together, which is the main thing.

    1. I started googling golden wedding parties and found a woman who wore her original dress to her 50th. Now that, is a real achievement!
