Our beloved Elephant's Child, Sue posted for Sunday Selections 833 times, posting through her battles with mental health, MS and lastly a very aggressive cancer.
Her steady commitment to Sunday Selections was just like her commitment to her friends, her family, her volunteering and her pets.
A self described lover of beauty, Sue loved the early mornings, the skies, a flower or a garden, street art, sculpture and of course her beloved roos.
May she be remembered for her love, her courage, her community service and her compassionate, nurturing spirit.

I never visited her blog but I was aware of her presence... "Elephant's Child". I wonder why she chose that blog name? It's nice that you have marked her passing in such a kindly manner. Over the years I have come to appreciate what a genuinely and consistently kind-hearted woman you are Kylie.
ReplyDeleteP.S. In her very first blogpost, Sue wrote, "Like the elephant's child I suffer from insatiable curiosity." She was referring to a story by Rudyard Kipling.

DeleteLosing a blogging colleague is like losing a friend. Even though the blogger might have lived in another city or another country, personal details have been shared in the posts over the years, often more honestly than with work mates or uni friends.
ReplyDeleteI had two American friends who visited me in Australia and I visited them in their homes. I miss them both terribly.
Hels, I have counted myself lucky not to lose any favourite bloggers through death. That run has now ended.
DeleteI have just learned from Andrew of Sue's passing, I was going to email her in the morning to ask if she was okay after missing this week's Sunday Selections. I feel so bad that I didn't email last week. I feel quite numb, what will we do without her?
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw your comment at The Other Side of Eighty, I encouraged you to email her. My best guess is that she was already gone when I wrote it.
DeleteThe very last thing Sue would want is for you to feel bad and it happened so fast that it took everyone by surprise.
Without her we have one less caring and compassionate sister and it will hurt but we will go on and honour her with our lives.
Oh no, she was so kind to me, even sent donations now and then to help with the cats here in Oregon, always had kind encouraging words, in comments on my blog. Knew she was one of the kindest gentlest souls on earth. She loved her kitties, was always so positive. My dear Elephants Child--you will rest in peace, I know that. A last salute to you, your time on earth was gentle and cheerful, you made humans look good.
