One of my Christmas gifts was a gnome painting kit so on New Years Day, I went to Briony's place and we had a very chill afternoon of painting.
Briony painted and I dabbed paint in a messy fashion. I try hard but I just don't have what it takes. Anyways, Briony made some tidying touches and while my "Barry" will never be even close to perfect, he makes a lovely rustic complement to the pretty "Helen"
The chance to chat and eat and focus on a project which could be completed was balm to my fried system.
My thanks to Yorkshire Pudding for awarding me a commendation in The Laughing Horse Awards. It was for kindness, which makes me think nobody knows who I really am!
But also, it reminds me of a time when somebody told me I was really smart. A nice compliment but at the time I wished my efforts to become a better person had been noticed.
Now they have.
I wish all of you a good year full of enjoyable food, happy community, good health and random interactions with dogs because dogs are joy.

Gnome painting sounds like fun. My gnomes have been gnomenapped, well put away to somewhere I can't remember. I can't get rid of them as they were a gift.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your commendation, and I've always thought of you as a kind person.
Hi Andrew,
DeleteI get rid of gifts, not all of them but some. I cant keep everything so I think about the intent, accept the goodwill and move the goods.
Thank you for the positive input!
What a lovely project. Very glad you got some down time. Any kind of creative endeavour is good for the soul, no matter how good you are at it. Being an artist and art lecturer, I've seen art work its magic on many people, including myself.
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle,
DeleteI enjoy blogging but doing something with my hands hits on a different level.
It was a very pleasant afternoon.
I walk a lot in the evenings and of course the dog walkers are out too. I have many interactions with dogs.
ReplyDeleteThe walking and the dogs are probably 90% of your good humour and health!
DeletePleasurable interactions with dogs are indeed very joyous. In times of invasions, civil wars, fatal floods and bushfires across the world, dogs are trustworthy and comforting. Time for me to search for a labrador puppy, to replace the beloved Rudy who died during Covid.
ReplyDeleteThats a long time to be missing a mate. I hope you find just the right pup
DeleteOne of the pleasures of my daily walk is encountering dogs. There's something about them that always lifts my spirits. "Barry" looks a bit bemused by something. Perhaps he finds his bright green hat embarrassing?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the hat. Or maybe its the skin colour? He's neednt worry, hes a lot more stylish than the big cheeto
DeleteWell done on the kindness awards. You have always struck me as being a very kind person, Kylie. I aspire to it and fail sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYour gnome is adorable. The old Irish tradition of putting a deliberate fault in our creative efforts is used as a reminder that we are all humble in our gifts. If anyone criticizes your work tell them that.😊

I dont know why I didnt think of that! My mother was a Keane, you know.
DeleteI hope you heard of John B Keane, the amazing playwright? You come from creative bones.

I like the Gnome painting. I lost my gnome right after Christmas. I am not sure if it was accidental or if he decided he had enough and jumped. I sadly swept all the pieces up.
ReplyDeleteAwww I'm sure it was accidental.
DeleteGnome painting sounds fun, even more so with a companion.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun! Now I want to try all the good colour schemes I thought of after I finished!
