I have been working full time hours for the last three months and at times I have left work early or gone in late because I have had some kind of personal business to attend to.
I think it's good to be present every day, even if it is for reduced hours but today I decided to take sick leave. If I reduce my hours, my pay is docked but if I take the full day off, I get paid for it.
I feel a bit like a kid wagging school.
So, today I renewed my Working With Children Check. It has been a bureaucratic nightmare but it is finally done for the next five years.
I have sat in the sun with Buffy.
I have changed my bed linen.
I have had multiple cups of coffee.
Soon I will put a curry in the pressure cooker so I can have pre-cooked food for another day.
Then I will do my online exercise class and watch tv.
Obviously I don't have a lot to say!
A perfect day.
ReplyDeleteIt was good the breathe, Michelle
DeleteThe change from full-time employment to part-time or no employment is always difficult. Even if you have time to prepare in advance.
ReplyDeleteMy change was totally unexpected, but during long Covid lockdowns, I retired. Each day was full of isolation and lack of direction.
Hels, I've worked mostly part time for 30 years with a long period of unemployment. Looking back, I wasn't doing well at that time.
DeleteJust one perfect day.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think you will go when you retire? Quite well, I imagine.
Unlike the marvellous Hels above, I loved retiring at the age of 61, just months before Covid hit. I think the difference is Hels loved her job and I had grown to hate mine.
Andrew, I expect i will be ok with retiring but before that I would like to do something significant. I never cared about career but now I wish I could do something to be proud of. I have 10 or 12 years left if I dont become too disabled
DeleteIt's bizarre that If you reduce your hours, your pay is docked but if you take the full day off, you get paid. What can be the rationale for that?
ReplyDeleteChanging the bed linen drives me nuts. Putting new duvet covers on the duvets must be one of the most tedious domestic tasks ever invented.
Nick, I clock in and out so absences are noted but a full day away is personal leave.
DeleteMaybe I could apply for just a couple of hours leave, I've never bothered to find out.
I agree that bed making is tedious. It's a lot better with one each side of the bed.
Dishes, vacuuming and meal planning are all tedious
You probably needed and will benefit from the R&R (rest and recuperation). A lazy day every once in a while is not a bad idea. Your day sounds almost perfect, especially the time with Buffy. I had a manager once at IBM who told us all not to lie and say we were ill if we weren't, just say "I'm taking a mental health day today." As long as our projects met their schedules and deadlines on time, she was happy.
ReplyDeleteHi Robert,
DeleteI'm not at all sure a mental health day would have been acceptable but I just said "I will be on sick leave"
My son has a soapbox about how explanations are not legally required so his voice was echoing in my head 😊
It was good.
Thank you for visiting
I'll bet of we were face to face there would be lots to talk about.
ReplyDeleteHi Red,
DeleteI'd love if we could all have dinner together! Actually, it might need to be a weekend
Exhaustion Leave was a necessity, Kylie.
ReplyDeleteBurn out. Self care. De-stress. De-tox. Re-charging.
These ideas were not current in my generation.
Women had not yet learned to be assertive. In the workplace. And anywhere else.
So pleased to hear that the bureaucratic nightmare is over.
You're not wagging school. You're taking precautions against illness.
Just watch the coffee. I write as a coffee purist.
Thank you, Mr Haggerty!
DeleteI am very much looking forward to a more extended leave sometime when staffing is improved.
I love coffee but I think i love the ritual more
Years ago I read a photo-essay in a travel magazine on cafes in Melbourne where immigrants
Deletefrom Mittel Europa gathered. Coffee rituals indoors or outdoors can reset the morning.
A YouTube video showed a tourist in Italy asking for cappuccino in the afternoon.
The cafe owner said No. Enjoy your recharge, Kylie.

I planned a list of things to do today too, then went right back to sleep instead. Woke up to a "messed up computer" which didn't improve my mood one bit. Got it sorted.
ReplyDeleteI never, ever do as much as I aspire to.
DeleteI'm glad the computer is sorted, thats a load off your mind
Good for you and well done. We all need time off. Especially when you don't fully enjoy your job. Nice to get meals put aside also. You desperately needed that day off!

The working with children check had been weighing on me and without it, I can't work.
DeleteAll up I was very pleased with the day.
Naughty Kylie! Wagging it like that. What will The Lord think when he sees what you have been up to? Actually it was quite a nice surprise to discover that Aussies use the term "wagging" for playing truant. "Wagging" is used in South Yorkshire too - but not all over England.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord told me that was the day 😊
DeleteDo I get honorary ststus as a Yorkshire local?
