A while back, a man came in to work looking for an aged care place for his wife. As we walked, he told me that he had married her, his first marriage, aged 70.
To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. Orry had stayed single and looked after his mother, finally marrying as an old man.
Orry knocks on the office door quite frequently and he's a lovely bloke but a bit high maintenance (as I write I realise he's probably quite anxious) so when he came to the desk yesterday and said he needed to see me, I wondered what he wanted this time.
"Carly, love, I brought tomatoes for everyone last week but you weren't here so I brought you some today, from the garden. Put them in the fridge if you can, love"
I think I can live with the questions :)

Lovely gesture, from a possibly lonely man who had found a friend in you!
ReplyDeleteIt really was lovely and be was so sincere.
DeleteMy grandmother was widowed when she was 45. She married for the second time in her 60's to a man who had just retired and never previously married. He had been living with and looking after his mother until her death. He adored my grandmother and they had a good number of happy years together.
ReplyDeleteThats lovely.
DeleteAn interesting positive character.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is. And his wife is lovely too
DeleteTwo lucky events happened:
ReplyDelete1. tomatoes in greengrocers are very expensive and
2. I can grow anything in my back garden EXCEPT for tomatoes. They always fail.
Tomatoes can be tricky: bad weather, bugs, sun burn, birds. Yes, it was a good day.
DeleteLet the light shine!
What a sweet story!
ReplyDeleteYes, he's a sweet man.
