Taking the hint

Well, dear reader, I was not chosen as the new guardian of the wee dog Poppy. On the same day I applied for her, there was a call out for a foster carer for a 16 year old Jack Russell. The owner has cancer and isn't able to care for the dog but may eventually be in a position to bring it home. Bizarrely the vet had suggested euthanasia. The loss of a long time companion would be just be salt in the cancer wound. Not ideal for anyone.

I volunteered straight away and the lady from Jack Russell rescue thought it would be preferable to send the little one to me as they are uncertain how it would like to be in a multi dog household. With me it would have only dog status.

The owner was going to call me on the weekend but never did so either she's decided to rehome/ foster somewhere else or she can't bear to say goodbye to the dog.

Whatever is happening I hope it's a good outcome for both.

A friend of mine long ago told me that if you have to force something, it's not for you. Reluctantly I am putting aside the quest for a dog and hoping the universe will deliver something even better.

Two dogs?

  1. My spouse's name in Czech is Peppa or Peppy. I wouldn't be able to rescue Poppy because, if I yelled out to one of them, neither the spouse nor the dog would know who I wanted :)

    1. Poppy, Peppa, Peppy :)
The dog my parents got not long before I was born was called Heidi. Heidi and Kylie sound quite similar so I often answered for the dog!

  2. I would have to agree with your friend, when it happens it will be the right dog at the right time, just be patient.
All good dogs come to those who wait. Megan

    1. Yes, I have lovely grand dogs and a grandson and kids and work and an elderly mother to visit. There's plenty to keep me interested.

    1. Greys are low maintenance and gorgeous but after two of them with broken legs i decided it might be best to have a dog i can lift.
Having said that, a dog who cant get up unaided hasn't got quality of life.

  4. If you didn't get the pup it was not for you. One will come along perfect for you when you least expect it.

  8. A shame you didn't get either Poppy or the Jack Russell, but as you say if you have to force something, it's probably not for you.

  9. Yikes a 16yr old Jack seems to me to be a set up for heartbreak. Ours passed at about 20 or so. May the next one looking for a home be yours Kylie.

    1. I'd rather look after a 16 year old and break my heart than have it put down because the owner is in a rough patch.
      There will be one!

  10. My last dear dog found me so I'm hoping the same happens for you Kylie. I had lost my 18 yo previous dog and announced to the world that was my last dog as I would be travelling a lot. Ha. the universe had other plans. Ansa was a rescue and her owner (if I can call him that) was ordered to put her down, for many, many awful reasons. He showed up at my door late at night with her in tow. She was in terrible shape. And that was the beginning of a love story.

I keep thinking why would a dog land in my lap but the whole point of fate is you don't see it coming 🤣
