A day in the park

Today the girls were running at the District Cross Country competition. They had to run 2km through this park. There are about 12 schools in the district and the best from each school participated.

By some stroke of fortune I was asked to be a course official. That just meant I had to stop people cutting corners. Do I look official?
What is the collective noun for a group of school kids? This is when some of them were walking the course before the race.

I love these gum trees with the white trunks. And I love automatic cameras.....there's no other way I could get a shot like this. Magic.

At one point I stopped being official for just long enough to nearly miss this shot. It's one of my pair in the middle, the Tomboy I think.

The Tomboy came 15th and the Princess 19th in a field of 65. Pretty good, I say.

  1. Love it!!! I was at the park one day feeding ferals and there was a big 5 mile race, for kids 5-7! I was amazed!!! I talked to some of the teachers and worried because the kids were so young and they all piped in "Oh they've been training for months and the rule is, if you can't run, walk!" I was amazed by so many dedicated young kids running past me. I couldn't even run 2 miles! Hell, even a mile! Your daughter is beautiful and yes, both did very well. And honey, you look beautiful in your official roll as gate keeper, but you seem to have a problem with staying focused!

    XOXOXO

  2. yep, you're right about the focus but i dont claim to be a photographer and i've realised that if i try too hard to get everything right the moment passes and i dont get anything.
nice to see you up and about, suze

  3. Look at you, Mrs Official! Very dolled up and looking very Special, Special!
Yep, your girls did extremely well - I'd come in about number 65, probably a few hours after everyone else! I HATED running at school. We'd be made to run cross country, and it was just terrible!
You had lovely scenery to look at though - impressive!

    xx

  7. Tomboy must have had a change of focus yesterday huh? It's not usual for her to look so determined! Good on the pair of them. Makes me proud to see them following in my footsteps :)

  8. You're so funny. I wasn't referring to "focus" in terms of photos, but in terms of your attention span as a gate keeper! And that is why, in a nut shell, I love you to bits. Honestly. (Oh, believe me, I could elaborate!)

It's Thursday here, so have a good Friday. Yes, of course I'm laughing.

    XO

  11. talking of mulch it reminds me of the time we saw free mulch advertised..we rung the guys who were giving away mulch from tree lopping. we said we'd have some. they delivered a HUGE truckload. more than we could use. we gave it to my parents, the guy across the road, the lady next to him.....
everyone had INCHES, many inches of mulch!
