I wanted to go to a Malaysian joint in Sydney's Chinatown. We live about a 40 minute drive from the CBD and then there's always the parking hassle so I don't venture in without good reason. This place is seriously good. It is called Mamak and I found the wiki explanation of the word quite interesting.
We parked a couple of blocks walk away, under the major markets, Paddy's.
The original markets were knocked down and rebuilt on the same site in the mid to late '80s. The original facade was left intact and the new buildings fitted in behind it.
A short wander through the pedestrian area of Chinatown
Then we were faced with the queue at Mamak
A slurpee from the 7-11 across the road helped to soften the wait......
and I entertained myself with looking for a good angle on the Trade Hall building just across the street. It dates from 1888.

In other news I'm mightily relieved that the heat wave of the last few days has been gloriously swept away by the saving grace of the Sydney Southerly, everything is easier at a comfortable temperature and it's nice to sleep well. Now I'm off to the local mega mall for some of the shopping that seems to be ever neccessary.......
Thanks for the tour Kylie. Some of those pictures remind me of Chinatown in San Fran. I hope the wait was worth it!
ReplyDeleteYay, slurpees! Mom is the best!
