After yesterdays post featuring a wonderful photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge I started thinking about bridges I know. This one, the Sea Cliff Bridge is just south of Sydney, on the road to Wollongong. The old road followed the cliffs but rock falls and a landslide in 2003 prompted an indefinite road closure. Community protest was strong and the people of NSW demanded an alternative, leading to the construction of the bridge which was opened in 2005.
I haven't yet driven or walked across this bridge, I hope to but forget until days like today when it is brought to my attention.
I have a great friend & mentor who lived near the bridge for a while and for the moment that is my only (vague) connection to the Sea Cliff but the general area of Southern Sydney has lots of associations for me. I remember days spent at the beaches and the Royal National Park, of times spent with friends and family, of the wonderful drive down there, of holidays and day trips, of summer sun and surf .......
Another cool bridge Kylie. Good stuff!

Hi Kylie,
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend was a good one. Helen & I have just got back from seeing a surgeon for Helen who is going to have her wisdom teeth (two at he bottom removed). Its not happening till July 3rd. Could have been in may but Helen took her diary with her and there was music recital then. June exams so finally it came down to July. She will need a week off school so that why she was hesitant to take any time around those dates.
