All of this is reflected in the activities of my church. There was no service on New Years Day, things resumed with a poorly attended service on the 8th and the coffee lady (that's me) decided to serve cold lemon cordial instead of coffee.Today our minister is back on deck after a couple of weeks off and she corralled a few of us to get Christmas decorations put away.
It's a very hot and unpleasant 40°C today so she offered to buy us all a drink as thank you.
I'm usually a coffee drinker but today my head was turned by the promising sound of a coconut and mango smoothie. In my heat addled state I imagined it to be coconut milk with mango. The drink I ended up with was delicious but obviously highly sweetened and containing very little coconut. It also came in a single use plastic cup. I do my best to stay away from sugary drinks and single use plastics so there was a side of guilt involved.
Right now i'm wondering if this confessional post would qualify as "Daggy Mum" fodder. Maybe I should have just made my own coconut mango smoothie and posted photos.
I say leave the guilt about the smoothie at the door. If I make something it is subject to my ways and rules, but if someone makes or buys something for me I just try to accept it for the honest gift that it is. (Of course I would have taken the one use cup home, washed it and used it over and over)
ReplyDeleteThere is always tomorrow to be sugar free!
DeleteMmmm mango smoothie. Sorry, I got sidetracked. It is hot here too, and that sounds delectable. I had mango and passionfruit for dinner last night, and may repeat it tonight.
ReplyDeleteNo guilt. You didn't make the smoothie or demand the single use cup. Let it go. (Easier said than done.)
mango and passionfruit is one of the best ever combinations!
DeleteI will probably feel better after I have a chocolate :)
A chocolate? They come as a singular item?
DeleteBefore I write my first thought I need to clarify. I personally think planetary degradation is the most pressing issue of the day.
ReplyDeleteThat said, never feel guilty for having something occasionally that someone else paid fpor.
In short "anything for free except for a hard time.
good philosophy!
DeleteMy reaction - the ingredients must have come off cans. If you want mango and/or coconut smoothies, you must come over here during the mango season April to July. Coconuts can be had throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteI very much hope I can see some of India one day, I'm sure there would be a lot of memorable moments.
DeleteOn my way home tonight, after a day on 'Nana Duty', I passed a large truck with 'Spreader' emblazoned on its front and I wound my way along the country roads with a full 'snow' moon lighting my way, all of which denotes a rather wild and woolly weekend in store for us over here and by that I mean, 'thunder snow' and wrapped up to the earlobes. Not a mango smoothie in sight (yours look delish!).
ReplyDeletemaybe your drink of choice will be hot chocolate?
DeleteI hope you stay warm and safe.
It's hard to maintain healthy eating and drinking when there are so many unhealthy but tempting options everywhere you go. When Jenny and I go out for coffee, we like a pain aux raisins but it's probably chockful of nasties. And I prefer actual fruit to smoothies.
ReplyDeletePain aux raisins is probably no worse than anything else you might have!
DeleteI often have a smoothie for breakfast, it feels like you get more than just a piece of fruit
That smoothie looks delicious! I, too, am appalled at the sugar content of some smoothies. If a smoothie is made of some fruit, at least, I have no need for sugar. I read your blog all the time, but until lately could not comment!
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to see a comment from you, Linda. I think you have succeeded a couple of times before!
DeleteI thought a mango smoothie was a Jamaican gigolo.
ReplyDeleteyou learn something new every day, dont you?
DeleteI adore mango
ReplyDeleteAnd never really eat or drink it
Fruit of the Gods, isn't it? you should treat yourself!
