Mango Smoothie

I have heard January in Sydney described as a month long party and, if you are privileged enough, I suppose that is true. School children are on  holidays and the relaxed attitudes start with Christmas. Boxing day and New Year holidays follow and then there is Australia day only three weeks later. It is the time of year that many businesses close so it can be hard to see a doctor or get a tradesman or eat at a favourite restaurant. The days after New Year sometimes feel just a little bit apocalyptic and everything slowly gains momentum  as the month passes.
All of this is reflected in the activities of my church. There was no service on New Years Day, things resumed with a poorly attended service on the 8th and the coffee lady (that's me) decided to serve cold lemon cordial instead of coffee.Today our minister is back on deck after a couple of weeks off and she corralled a few of us to get Christmas decorations put away.
It's a very hot and unpleasant 40°C today so she offered to buy us all a drink as thank you.
I'm usually a coffee drinker but today my head was turned by the promising sound of a coconut and mango smoothie. In my heat addled state I imagined it to be coconut milk with mango. The drink I ended up with was delicious but obviously highly sweetened and containing very little coconut. It also came in a single use plastic cup. I do my best to stay away from sugary drinks and single use plastics so there was a side of guilt involved.
Right now i'm wondering if this confessional post would qualify as "Daggy Mum" fodder. Maybe I should have just made my own coconut mango smoothie and posted photos.

  1. I say leave the guilt about the smoothie at the door. If I make something it is subject to my ways and rules, but if someone makes or buys something for me I just try to accept it for the honest gift that it is. (Of course I would have taken the one use cup home, washed it and used it over and over)

  2. Mmmm mango smoothie. Sorry, I got sidetracked. It is hot here too, and that sounds delectable. I had mango and passionfruit for dinner last night, and may repeat it tonight.
No guilt. You didn't make the smoothie or demand the single use cup. Let it go. (Easier said than done.)

    2. A chocolate? They come as a singular item?

  3. Before I write my first thought I need to clarify. I personally think planetary degradation is the most pressing issue of the day.

That said, never feel guilty for having something occasionally that someone else paid fpor.

In short "anything for free except for a hard time.

  4. My reaction - the ingredients must have come off cans. If you want mango and/or coconut smoothies, you must come over here during the mango season April to July. Coconuts can be had throughout the year.

    1. I very much hope I can see some of India one day, I'm sure there would be a lot of memorable moments.

  5. On my way home tonight, after a day on 'Nana Duty', I passed a large truck with 'Spreader' emblazoned on its front and I wound my way along the country roads with a full 'snow' moon lighting my way, all of which denotes a rather wild and woolly weekend in store for us over here and by that I mean, 'thunder snow' and wrapped up to the earlobes. Not a mango smoothie in sight (yours look delish!).

  6. It's hard to maintain healthy eating and drinking when there are so many unhealthy but tempting options everywhere you go. When Jenny and I go out for coffee, we like a pain aux raisins but it's probably chockful of nasties. And I prefer actual fruit to smoothies.

    1. Pain aux raisins is probably no worse than anything else you might have!
I often have a smoothie for breakfast, it feels like you get more than just a piece of fruit

  7. That smoothie looks delicious! I, too, am appalled at the sugar content of some smoothies. If a smoothie is made of some fruit, at least, I have no need for sugar. I read your blog all the time, but until lately could not comment!
