Things people say.......

There are a few things I read on facebook all. the. time. and today i thought I would tell you the way I wish I could answer.

Please be kind/ no negativity/ don't abuse me for this
The fact you need to say this suggests that you know it is idiotic in some way so how about you change what you are doing or just don't post it on social media. Also, most people are kind when kindness is the appropriate response so please don't make assumptions that everyone is as bitchy as you think and you are probably making that assumption based on your own behaviour. Get a mirror.

Sorry for the long post (always said by a woman)
Did it need to be that long? was the information relevant? or perhaps entertaining? If there was a purpose for every sentence then stand by your work, don't apologise for it. FFS, would any man ever apologise for a long post? Then why should you?
This one is even worse when it the prelude to the post. Why are you telling me this is long and boring before I even read it? do you expect to be taken seriously? Nobody will think you have anything worthy of reading if even you don't

I have a skin cancer on my face and I am scared to treat it  because of scarring
Cos the cancer would be loads prettier, right?

If this post is not allowed in this group, admin please delete
How about you read the rules and figure it out? and if you can't get off your backside to figure it out, don't imagine that the admins need your permission to delete because no more explanation is needed than "hasta la vista, baby!"

have you got pet communicative hates?

Oh and I just have to add this:

Here's a photo of my funny dog/ child's rash/ birthday cake. Please ignore the mess in the room
Right well either clean it up before you take the photo or don't mention it, especially if there is no mess and you are fishing for compliments

  1. You are opening a door to a world of which I have no knowledge. Facebook and Twitter mean almost nothing to me as I have never signed up for either of them. Pet communicative hates? I hate the word "standout" and I hate people confusing its with it's. I am also somewhat averse to unnecessary swear words though used judiciously swear words can be very powerful and appropriate.

    1. I don't think I have used the word standout much if at all but I have been infected by the "like" virus!

  2. I am laughing as I read this. I see the same thing all the time and wonder why you (the universal you) are posting if you are begging excuses for the post.

  3. I think Facebook and Twitter are considered hip or modern, but they seem to be overwhelmingly "I" centred and vacuous to me. Maybe I'm just seeing the wrong ones. My pet peeve is the ones that always start with some version of "So excited to (whatever)!!" Can anybody be that excited ALL THE BLOODY TIME? ha ha

I have found a few (and one you might like: https://twitter.com/dog_rates ...it's funny, it's uplifting, it's got great pictures) where was I? yes, I have found a few that are worth reading/following but the vast majority I can live without.

  4. P. S. The "We Rate Dogs" twitter feed can be sad at times, too, but overall I find it more uplifting than not. You might need to read a few to get the gist of the rating system, etc. It's all done in a warm light-hearted way.

  6. I seldom come across those things. I do contend with a lot of too-long posts, for which the writers don't usually apologise. But the other things, no. Perhaps my Facebook friends are more sensible than most?

    1. It's not from friends of mine, I probably wouldn't have people like that on my list. It's in mummy groups, dog groups etc

  8. Haha, I'm so pleased I don't have Facebook! But don't you think these criticisms could be directed at us bloggers too!

    1. well i guess some bloggers get a bit nervous about some posts but i feel like it's ok to say that among friends. People who say unpopular things in facebook groups seem to be asking for trouble

  9. I hardly ever come across such posts but, if I do, I am very likely to respond as you have suggested.

  10. Thanks for making me laugh, in recognition; though not a facebook user I dare say most of what you say can be applied to blogs and their comment boxes too. To stick with your examples, there are two ways of looking at people who continually (oh so humbly) apologize for their existence: They are so unsure, so needy, their putting themselves down, positively reeks of looking for reassurance from their readers. It's pathetic. On the other hand, you can't hold low self esteem against anyone; yet it does have potential to put you off someone.

I particularly like your line, for obvious reasons: "Also, most people are kind when kindness is the appropriate response so please don't make assumptions that everyone is as bitchy as you think and you are probably making that assumption based on your own behaviour. Get a mirror." Yup.

  11. "would any man ever apologise for a long post?"

As a man who writes long post, I can but say that I hate it when I write a long post, not because I wasted words, but because I know that I've put hours of work into something that most of my few readers will simply scan. It makes me question whether my time couldn't be better spent.

    1. For the people who read it, there is value in it and there is value in it for you because writing about something helps us to organise our thoughts around it.
I read every word of all your posts
