Friday

Things here are chugging along. Work is busy because we have had a few guests in  and have more coming and I need to pay attention to all of that. The boss has been here from Melbourne and she has a sharp eye for detail so she always leaves me with a to-do list of things to chase up.
Liam's wedding is coming up in 8 or 9 weeks and I saw a lovely pair of linen pants on sale which I have bought. They were delivered to work (I didn't want such an important package delivered to home where the dogs Lucy might get hold of it)
I haven't tried them on yet but they look good, now to find a top suitable for a pretty summer wedding....
The friend who I thought might  be dying has now told me that she is. I have noticed that she is very carefully editing what she says and to whom. I think the confusion around her health was exactly what she wanted and that is ok by me. She had a fall at home a few days ago and wasn't sure if she needed an ambulance. It's pretty funny because she actually ended up in ICU for a couple of days. It's a long way from not-sure-about-an-ambulance to ICU. I might not be laughing if she hadn't called them. Her cats are being visited by a friend who feeds and waters them and I have realised that I can't make arrangements to send them anywhere else. To surrender them would break R's heart so we will make do for as long as it takes.
One of the others in the seniors group is moving into nursing home care so won't be coming along much longer. I'm hoping we can see her at least one more time but when people are seriously unwell (or in her case well but dreadfully frail) nothing is a given.
We are in the lead up to a three day weekend now, the weather is hot and sunny with a cool change expected later today. I have no plans but something will come up, I'm sure. There's always the possibility of cleaning the fridge!

  1. I do hope something better than cleaning the fridge comes up.
Isn't linen a lovely fabric (though a beast to iron).
And yes, not sure about the need for an ambulance and a few days in ICU says very clearly it did need to be called. I hope she continues to be able to manage her life (and death) in her own terms.
The ambulance thing reminds me of the time I called one for my partner. Goodness he was cross at me, but went into a seven hour surgery later that day, and spent a month in hospital.

    1. A month in hospital is no minor thing! I'm glad you called them!

Was that just a few years ago?

    2. I think it was seven or eight years ago now.

  2. At least you're not contemplating cleaning the oven!
I am feeling slightly heartbroken by the elderly at the minute, you do a fantastic job.

    1. The oven, I'm considering paying someone to do that!

  3. Funny how cleaning the fridge or any other appliance is always the fallback activity, never the highlight! lol

I do hope, as EC said, that the lady in question can continue to manage life and death on her own terms. After watching my father live out his final years in a nursing home, with all that implies, I dread being in the same situation, with so little control.

    1. There's a teeny highlight when you have a sparkling fridge at the end. I ended up watching the full season of Unbelievable. It was good

  4. I think your friend is in a very understandable denial. If she things positive, then maybe she thinks things will be positive. Poor thing.

    1. I do wonder if there's an element of denial but I think mostly she's trying to avoid pity and be gentle with those who are struggling

  5. I am glad to learn that you are not about to die any time soon.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I guess it really is her right to keep the details as private as she wishes. I hope, as the others say, she is able to manage it and to deal with her situation as best suits her!

    1. I'm starting to realise she is very good at drawing her boundaries so until her body dictates everything she will be in control, I think

  7. Well given that that was written on Friday and that I was travelling over the weekend so out of Blogland all that's left for me to do is wonder whether you actually did do the fridge. My money says you found something more interesting (if less rewarding). And that means you still have the fridge to do.

  8. Clean the fridge? Hell, you know how to have a good time, gal! Living on the edge.

  9. I hope things worked out nicely for you for the weekend now past.

Old age is such a time of change, very hard to spin around and grab onto the pieces as they fly by.

  10. A boss with a sharp eye for detail can be either inspiring or terrifying. I had a micro-manager once who wanted every little thing done differently. Luckily he got a new job and the staff were greatly relieved to be shot of him.

  12. My mother was cross when I called an ambulance and was adamant she didn't need it, and then stayed in hospital for 5 weeks.

The fridge is not bad, but the oven needs help badly. Not a job I want to do.
