Delivery

I know everyone is sick of covid but I'm struggling to find anything to say that isn't somehow related.
What we eat is determined by what I can find in the shops.
My average work day has changed.
The members of my household are different. (Briony & Lucy are back while schools are running skeleton crews)

I'm at work in an empty building for two hours a day just to check mail and other basic support tasks so this box of laptops which has been sent from the Melbourne office for the use of my newly working from home colleagues, was shipped to my house where there is always somebody home to collect.

As it happens, the box was delivered when I was home alone, the dogs were trying to break into the new box of food, the phone was ringing and I was busting for the loo. I waved to the driver and assured him I would look after the box. Then I nervously waited for someone to come home and help move it from the driveway.
It's very heavy and the key to the padlock is coming by express post but even express post is slow at the moment so I now have a box of laptops which I can't actually get laptops out of! Hopefully I can get the box open and the machines distributed before Easter.

  1. We're on the same topic tonight or today! I'm afraid we'll be on this topic for quite a while yet.

    1. Yes, it's going to be around for a while and it dominates everything for a reason

  2. Fingers and toes crossed you can retrieve the laptops.
And yes, this rotten virus does take up a lot of space in our heads and hearts.
    Stay well, stay safe. Please.

    1. The key arrived so I think everyone can be supplied their computer and ready to roll after Easter.
I hope you keep well, in every sense

  3. Hopefully you will be able to get the laptops. I think this nasty beast is front and center of our thoughts unless we actively push it back. Hard to do since news of it is everywhere.

    1. I'm not terribly occupied with the disease itself but it has changed every area of life.
      I hope you're going well

  4. It's hard to think of anything else but the virus as it's changed all our lives so much at the moment. But I'm grateful I have a home, food, water, the internet and of course people in the house with me. I hope you get the box unlocked soon!

    1. Yes, I'm fortunate to have people in the house and I still get to go out.

  5. They most be some very important laptops if the key was mailed separately. These days you cannot trust either type of deliveries to come on time.

    1. Australia Post are rushed off their feet and customer service is a high risk job these days, the pressure must be intense for them

  6. Having a box of laptops which you can't actually get laptops out of seems symbolic of something I can't quite put my finger on.

But now that the key has arrived, God's in his Heaven, all's right with the world.

How easily we are frustrated, and how easily made happy.

    1. Yes, I can be made happy with a coffee in the sun! There's a darn lot of privilege in that though, isn't there?

  7. This was an interesting post, despite your thoughts it might not be. I just want to read a post from you. I cannot imagine a box full of laptops sitting out in plain view. I hope you get the key soon.

    1. My street is very quiet but the box was quite obviously something valuable and so easy to steal.

  8. I am happy to hear that the key to the heavy box has arrived. If only someone could provide a magical key to turn off COVID 19.

    1. The harsh reality of any epidemic is that it sweeps through and does it's damage to the vulnerable while everyone else becomes immune. We are seeing it's worst now and won't see it this bad again

  10. While living alone has its plus points, such events can frustrate one beyond endurance. I have recently had a couple of such events and am yet to recover from them. My best wishes that you manage this with the same aplomb that you use with all your other activities.

    1. Yes, I'm sure I haven't thought of even half of the challenges in living alone

  11. It's dominant in our minds, this whole new world and creating a lot of anxiety also and wwe do weird stuff to cope. I must write about it.

    Impressive looking box tho, wow!

  12. British MPs are being given £10,000 each to help them work from home! Incredible. While everyone else just has to rely on their own resources, the MPs are blatantly finding an excuse to claim a bit more cash (on top of their £81,932 salary).

I hope you get the key to your padlock asap!
