Harry has been to play group and is knocked out on the couch. I've reheated some pear and parsnip soup for my dinner and i look forward to it. Unfortunately the bread has all gone and my other go-to soup accompaniment, sausage rolls, have also been gone-to.
I've been to work today and measured offices, meeting rooms and classrooms to determine the maximum numbers allowable in each downstairs space. Tomorrow, upstairs.
Over the last week or two I have very much enjoyed watching "After Life". It's dreadfully sad and funny and wise. Lenox Hill was another recent watch of mine. I've watched my fair share of hospital reality TV and enjoy it all but this one looks much more closely at the doctors, a unique perspective which I appreciated.
The dean of the college I work for brought chocolates today to thank me for "looking after him" on his trips to Sydney. I make sure the accommodation is cleaned and keys are made available so it's not really a lot and it's my job but it was still nice to be thanked.
The osteopath stretched and crunched me this afternoon so I'm sore in a good way and it should lead to a good nights sleep.
this photo of Harry (and most of Liam) is just because I haven't posted any photos in a while, it was taken yesterday
It is always nice to be thanked - and chocolate rarely goes astray either.
ReplyDeleteI hope your good soreness gives you an excellent night's sleep.
Loved seeing happy Harry (and most of Liam).
I did have a good sleep. Today feels like a good day
DeleteI miss the early darkness that comes with the shorter days. I am in a mood for darkness.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the short days but I'm in no mood for darkness!
DeleteI need a good crunching! It is 7:15 am and I still have not been to sleep all night. I love the picture of Harry.
ReplyDeleteLack of sleep is awful and lying there awake all night is awful, too
DeleteMy education has been sorely lacking. I knew that chiropractors do stretching and crunching, but that osteopaths do also is something I never expected. Live and learn! Even at 79-1/3.
ReplyDeleteHarry's outfit makes him resemble an okapi.
Chiropractors and osteopaths do very similar things but I am told the philosophies are different.
Deletehaha 79-1/3! I'm 49-3/24
I had to look up okapi, they are rather lovely!
Coming into the longest day here so sun goes down close to 9.30. I love the long days.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of Happy Harry.
The soup sounds wonderful, do you have a recipe? I'm a mad one for the parsnips.

In general I don't follow recipes, I just read through a few and then pick and choose the bits I want to keep. Having said that, the soup I made very closely resembles this recipe

funnily enough, the writer says it's amazing how many people love parsnips when you mention them!
That's a hell of a tongue Harry has got but who sawed off one of his ears? By the way, I loved "After Life" too. It has changed my opinion of Ricky Gervais a great deal. It was tender, light... and I loved the way a sense of the community was created. I believe there's going to be a second series...one day.
ReplyDeleteYes, we saw a side of Mr Gervais that we haven't seen before. I watched two series on Netflix tho I have found that Netflix sometimes re-number seasons so you might have seen them both.
DeleteI hadn't thought of the sense of community but you're right
Sorry - I meant a third series.
DeleteA thank you is one of the easiest and often most neglected gifts we can get. Chocolates are just the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteYes, the thank you was what counted. I really notice the people who take the trouble to say thanks and I especially notice it when it comes from someone much higher on the importance ladder
DeleteIt's nice to have good job performance recognized, isn't it? Thank you for the photo of Harry in his trendy sweater and windblown ears - it's a great look for him :)
ReplyDeleteHarry is a star, can you believe he wears a turtle neck?? :)
DeleteKeep on telling us about your winter. I like to see how it compares with ours.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to do that, Red. Today's high was 20 degrees C, which is probably a summer temp. for you?
DeleteI'm quite confused about the 'distancing' thing. There are so many inconsistencies. People in my local town are completely ignoring it and barging past me in the small grocery shop. Yet daily we get reminded from our shire president via Facebook to maintain social distancing, wash hands etc etc. I messaged her and said it's bullshit.....people aren't playing by the rules, but she's maintaining the government's line. I don't really care if we do or don't - but the inconsistencies are creating friction and stress.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's all a bit confusing and some people are sticklers and some are not and you never know which it's going to be
DeleteI like hospital reality TV as well. There's a good programme "24 hours in A&E". And there's a series "Hospital" which spends time in different hospitals. I wonder why these programmes are so fascinating?
ReplyDeleteI like the UK "ambulance" and "24 hours in A & E"
DeleteI'm not sure if I've seen "hospital"
I think the appeal is in the suspense of the situations and plain old sticky beaking
"It's almost the shortest day here in the south." That is sooo depressing. It means that soon our days will start getting shorter. Mind you at the moment on a clear night it doesn't go dark here.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what it would be like to have unending daylight. I'd also rather not imagine the short days. I'm guessing there would be only a few hours of light
DeleteYep, nearing our longest day in the UK - and it's grey and rainy! Not looking forward to Winter at all, and the possibility of a second wave.
ReplyDeleteSx
Yes, grey weather is miserable enough without the threat of severe illness
DeleteI always dread this time of year when our days start to get shorter, but I see now that it's a necessary evil for you folk "down under" to get your share of the sun!
ReplyDeleteyes! give it back :)
