  1. A poem which will attract some criticism. Which is sad and bad.

  2. Isaac Bahevis Singer is one of my favourite writers, but schmick isn't Yiddish.
The word came to Australia from Germany obviously and means stylish, hip.
Surprise is the note in good writing. Thanks for schmick.

    1. I will look up at least some of the references!
I wasn't sure this would meet your approval, John , and whether it does or not, you've been gracious. Graciousness is high on my list

    2. The perceived maleness of God puts off some, which is why Wicca and goddess worship flourish.
The poet Janet Paisley said her husband called her a witch: she took it as a compliment. I think she is wrong in writing off Christianity as patriarchal, considering the contribution made by women, and the respect God gives women all through the Bible.
If I sound as if I am defending goddess worship, I'm not. I was influenced by Francis Schaeffer, who paid pagan culture the compliment of taking it seriously, but then showing why only the Biblical view of humanity answers human needs.
The last reference is from a Mormon site: like Schaeffer I pay Mormons the compliment of reading their book, and then trying to make them see that their cult adds something utterly false to the Scriptures, the very thing we are prohibited from doing by Jesus.
I am as Biblical as Arthur W Pink, but I like to speak in Dr Schaeffer's voice

Watch short talks by Julie Canlis (YouTube) such as Finding God in the desert and preparation for Lent. She wrote a good book, Calvin's Ladder.

    4. A.W. Pink's Blog.
The iconography in this blog shows Pink taking the hammer of God to smash all idols.

Pink died in 1952, on the Isle of Lewis, off the coast of Scotland, in utter obscurity. He is now read by millions for his fidelity to Scripture.
Iain H Murray's biography of Pink (Banner of Truth) is a good story, as well as being a master class in Reformed theology.

The Banner of Truth blog is updated monthly and written in a lively style.
