i direct my own/care. A good line. So is informed consent.
We have a duty to care for ourselves, avoiding Covid-19, just as we take care crossing the busy road. My mother was devoted to her physician, Doctor Jean, who advised her to eat something before giving the children lunch. (We walked home from school for lunch.)
Doctor Jean and her husband Doctor Iain had no children. Doctor Iain was a slightly gruff ex-Army doctor, devoted to his patients, and a heavy smoker. They lived in Helensburgh, near Glasgow, which looks across the breezy Firth of Forth. My mother grieved when she learned of Doctor Jean's death.
Doctor Jean was a wise woman, telling your mother to prioritise her own wellbeing and of course someone who could see a patient so well would engender deep devotion
The only area I know anything about is birth. In that scenario decisions are made based on risk averse policies and avoiding risk is good but trying to eliminate it sometimes creates new risks. It's smart to find someone you trust

DeleteDoctors have kept me alive

I trust them
They had the same goal you did. Sometimes the goals of doctor and patient don't align
DeleteThanks for the reminder. Trust is earned not given and an essential.
