Poem 78

  1. Spring, with all its hope and vibrancy seems like the wrong time of year for those events doesn't it?

  2. It is shocking to read *dirty holy/week* but that is the truth about Golgotha.
Jesus was crucified in a rubbish dump where children had been been ritually slaughtered to appease the demon-idol Moloch.
Yet that *dirty* evil place was the crossroads of the world, the portal between time and eternity.

The inscription above the head of Jesus (INRI) was written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek.
It happened *long ago* but we know that to the Father, a thousand years is but a day, so the crucifixion in God's eyes was just two days ago.

You can see Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth on YouTube.
The encounter between Christ and Pontius Pilate is memorable.
Pilate turns to the chief priests and says, *He does not look like a king to me.*

Preaching on Christ's betrayal by Judas, Fr. O'Connor recommends reading the Gospel of St. John aloud at home.
I listened to his sermon after returning from vespers in St Luke's Cathedral (Greek Orthodox) here in Glasgow.
The icons in St. Luke's have spiritual beauty reflecting the faith of Greek Christianity. The Gospels were written in Greek, after all.

    1. Hi Mr Haggerty!
So much beautiful art is inspired by our faith, it's such an extensive form of worship, isn't it?

I hope your Easter was enjoyable and you found something fresh in it

  4. Well, I'm just happy it's Spring in the UK! Is it Autumn in Australia now?
I'm not really religious - so I'll tip-toe off through the tulips [after giving Anonymous a slap with a kipper].

    1. Hi Ms Scarlet,
It is autumn here although it's so hot and muggy right now we could be forgiven for thinking it's a very long summer.
Not everyone is religious, most of my readers are not, and that's ok.
