I was scrolling Instagram today and came across a video showing off some wooden spoons. The voice over was a woman talking about how she is going to get rid of her plastic kitchen utensils because they leave bits of plastic in her food.
She's saving up for some heat resistant, corrosion proof utensils.
They are lovely to look at....
you guessed it...
wooden spoons!
It went on to talk about how the wooden spoons will last a lifetime if they are cared for.
They cost $115 for a set. And the sad part is, people will buy them and think it's a good deal.
I thought we should start marketing clothes lines as free of lint fires and energy efficient. If we make them sound fancy we can charge 10 times what they are worth.
What solid, practical, old school technology can you put a new spin on?
That is a hoot! Who in their right mind wold pay 115 for wooden spoons? I get mine at the grocery store 4/$5 and they last until I accidentally char them by leaving them over an open flame. And even then it depends on how deep the char is.
ReplyDeleteI guess somebody is paying that much? or maybe they are just hoping somebody will :)
DeleteMy favourite wooden spoon came from my parent's home. I have had it for more than thirty years and goodness only knows how long they had it before passing it on. It just feels 'right' in my hand. Despite being very obviously well used (it has a chip out of it).
ReplyDeleteMy mum has a couple of old style tablespoons and they feel historic to me. They won't be going in the bin, thats for sure
DeleteThat is clever, kylie. I need a nap right now, so I will think on this and come back. My wooden spoons were carved or charred out of wood, some gotten from New Guinea. I think they made it out of the house.
ReplyDeleteMine are from the supermarket or taken from the disused kitchen at work
DeleteWell, they say there's a sucker born every minute.
ReplyDeleteyes, Red, there has to be or this spoon scheme would never work
DeleteLol, $125 for wooden spoons. How many wooden spoons do you need anyway? One, I think, perhaps two if one is in the dishwasher, which is probably the wrong way to wash them, but I can afford $1 for a new one. I suspect the one I occasionally use might be forty years old.
ReplyDeleteI have two and thats enough. Forty years old! none of mine have made it even close
DeleteIncredible how dumb people are. I got mine at my kitchen shower, a set of 3. One is bent but I am attached to it. They have travelled through countless moves with me. Mine are now coming up to 60 years old.

Wow! How do these spoons last so long?
DeleteI've had some I was quite attached to but they always eventually break
