I would have guessed that International Black Dog Day concerns coping with depression as the notion of a black dog is frequently used to describe those times when people who are prone to depression sink to their lowest ebb.
That's what I thought! Black Dog Day aims to promote the dogs most often left on death row. International mental health day on October 10 is the one for human mental health issues.its less descriptive
Sweet pups, Taff and Harry. Milly is adorable too. I miss our Bridgette. She was a black lab-dalmation mix and brought us joy for 15 years. Totally black except for a white patch on her chest with spots, and one paw was white. Still miss her tail banging up on the garage door when she knew we were home from shopping. That tail could fly like a whirligig.
Happy Black Dog Day! I keep looking at the black adult dogs at one of our local rescues. I swore I would never have another dog after Hushpuppy died, but I am seriously reconsidering.
I’m not a dog person so can’t comment except…..off topic…….to say the black one has visited a few times over the years. Maybe not jet black….sort of charcoal colour.
Now black cats are more to my liking - big ones, small ones, some as big as your head! Funny how ( like black dogs) some people avoid them like the plague and others (like me??) can’t get enough of them.
"The" black or charcoal dog seems to visit many people. I hope you were will supported. I had a cat as a kid but never since. I'm not against them though and as I said, all colours are as loveable as the other
My son's family had the sweetest black Labrador, Sharpie (2005-2023). We all miss him terribly. Thank you for paying attention to National Black Dog Day as I was unaware of it.
All big dogs.
ReplyDeleteYes Andrew, I've only ever had big dogs. Taffy and milly both 26kg but in very different packages. Harry was 39kg. I called him a house horse
DeleteI like big dogs, and I like black dogs.
ReplyDeleteI like any colour dog but black is the colour most often on death row. As all these were
DeleteOne of mine was Taffy too. Dogs are the best. I miss mine so much.

I've always loved dogs but I've learnt to appreciate them better. If that makes any sense.
DeleteI know you miss them. Aging is a thief

I'd never thought about it but yes, I also like black dogs. We had two black dogs when I was a kid - two Scottish terriers.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to have to downsize on my next dog. Terriers are a possible choice

ReplyDeleteTaffy had a giant feathery tail I'll never forget.
DeleteTails and ears are so expressive.
Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know Hushpuppy died, it's always a wrench, isn't it?
DeleteIf you pick another one, I'm sure it will be just as lovely in it's own way
I have a huge weakness for black dogs (and cats). We only ever had big dogs too.
ReplyDeleteBlack, white. Blue, brindle, forty, ginger all work for me :)
DeleteForty that should say. I persist in trying to see without glasses

I adored my black lab, the most intelligent and companionable dog in the world. And like your top photo, his fur was always shining.
ReplyDeleteOur Taffy was a lab x kelpie. He had his glossy coat and huge ruff right up to the day he died. What would we do without them?

ReplyDeleteSharpie lived a very long life! probably because he was so well loved
