Christmas Cards

Image result for christmas cards

Last year I really enjoyed the Christmas card swap organised by Anne at Cooking and All that Jazz.

She is running it again this year but I was late to the party so no swapsies for me. Instead, I'll send one to you if you email me with your address!

(doulakylie@yahoo.com.au)

You better get on it .....
and then I better get on it.....

and maybe you can get a card from me sometime before valentines day!

While we are talking cards, do you have any card traditions you feel like sharing?

  1. No card traditions in my house - no cards sent these days either:)

When I did send them (many many years ago) like yours they would arrive well into the New Year!

    1. I stopped sending cards probably ten years ago but I realised it's a lovely thing to do, much warmer than an email/ text or worst of all, a one size fits all facebook post

  2. I think that I better not request for a card from you. By the time it would reach me it would be 2019! No, I personally do not have any tradition of exchanging cards. I call people up to wish them on special days like birthdays / anniversaries etc. WhatsApp and Facebook now also acts as media to exchange greetings though I prefer not to use them either.

    1. I call people for birthdays but I have rarely called anybody for Christmas. I'm not sure why

  3. I loved the card I received from you last year, and would like to reciprocate. Can I have your address please - which you carefully left off the card last year.
Your memory posts have me thinking of my father again. At one time he expressed the wish to become the first Jewish Pope. From that time on ALL of his cards were addressed to Pope Dick.

    1. I didnt want you to feel obliged so I forgot the whole address protocol!

      Pope Dick, I like it!

  4. I love sending Christmas Cards. In addition to addressing about 250 letters from Santa (fundraiser) the past couple of days, I have addressed all of our cards as well as a few to blogging friends. I am headed to the post office in the morning to stick them in the mail. One of my traditions is to not buy traditional Christmas stamps. I tend to buy flag stamps because the post office never runs out of them and the envelops are discarded immediately anyway! (I will admit I bought a few traditional Christmas ones for the card exchange though)

    1. Christmas stamps were always a bit cheaper here than a regular stamp ....i'm not sure if they still make them though

  5. The one at the top of the post is lovely and enough for me; you don't have to send another one! If there were a sentiment inside, what might it have said?

    1. Dear Robert and Mrs Rhymes,

I wish you all the joy, peace and hope of the season and may 2019 be the best yet!

      Warmly,
      Kylie

I would have attempted to find an "Aussie" card to carry the message: maybe one with a kangaroo or a surfing Santa

  6. I only send Christmas cards to immediate relatives. Sending cards to everyone I know would be a mammoth task! No special card traditions, apart from the obvious one of sending charity cards - it was Oxfam this year (despite all the bad publicity).

    1. All organisations (including charities) are made up of people: flawed, messy, imperfect.

You are retired now so I think you should be sending cards to everyone you can think of!

    2. Everyone I can think of? Blimey, I'd still be at by next December :-)

  7. Apart from a few I do not send cards to people I see on an everyday basis. I used to send about 150 Christmas cards but now it's down to about 80. I like to write a bit more than a simple message but sometimes that has to suffice. I keep in touch with many friends on a regular and fairly frequent basis by snail mail rather than or as well as emails and WhatsApp etc. I think it's more 'personal'.

    1. I never sent cards to everyday acquaintances and my list of people to post to was never more than about 30.

One day (or maybe already) your hand written letters will be precious keepsakes and possibly historical documents

  8. I got a card from you last year in Anne's swap and am so glad we have stayed in contact!

  9. I got a card from you too (I was tickled to see Santa in a bathing suit). And from Jane too by the way. I also got a long, long letter from somebody in the US telling me all about their daughter's wedding and how the other kids were doing at school and so on and I have NO idea who this person is, so I reckon it might be someone on Anne's list. I like sending cards but I rather guiltily admit I haven't sent mine yet. Too much to do before I retire!

    1. I haven't sent a card yet, either! Things are not looking good for on time cards...maybe I'll drop the idea altogether or maybe I'll get inspired. Who knows?

  10. Oops, I am too late. I am a hopeless exchanger.... as seen throughout 2018! Maybe I'll get my act together in 2019 :-)
