Paint by Number

A little while back I saw a series of paint-by-numbers advertised. I've seen them before but this particular style really caught my eye so I picked one out and ordered it.
The artist in residence couldn't wait to try it out and she certainly has a steadier hand than mine.
It sits on the table and we spend a few minutes when we feel inclined, it's proving to be quite therapeutic.
I'm inordinately pleased with this snap, too.

  1. Love this idea. There's definitely great concentration going on here. I can see there might be more painting by numbers.
For some crazy reason I left a comment on a really old blog of yours yesterday. Sorry, just delete it.

    1. I read it, why delete? It was interesting to go back and see how the munchkins have changed!
I think I'd like to do some more painting by numbers but I'll finish this one before I distract myself with more :)

  2. That is a LOVELY snap. Beauty, concentration and precision all captured.
I couldn't paint between the lines as a schoolgirl, and I am completely certain I would be much worse now.

    1. EC,
I've discovered that strict adherence to the lines isn't necessary evverry time. And you get double the value if you have to redo some bits 😊😊

  3. The artwork looks fantastic. And I agree - the photo is good too. My colleagues and I in education at the prison hand out quite a lot of colouring in pages for inmates to take back to their units. It's one of the activities security will actually allow there. We photocopy designs out of the books and they are allowed to have coloured pencils. It's a sanity saver for many of them. As a 'career' artist I know only too well the value of doing art or something creative. Good on you both.

    1. Yes, colouring was so popular for a time there and it's probably cheaper than paints. I can see why you would use it in the prison. A friend of mine who is in a nursing home uses colouring in nas a sanity saver and is pleased to give her work to all the residents.

  4. I think the photo is quite beautiful. I like the style of the picture also. When I was a kid we did paint by numbers daily often and all I remember is boring landscapes.

    1. There are so, so many paint by numbers styles available now! I also remember them from when I was a kid, in a book with little dots of paint that dissolved with a wet brush.

  5. Pretty! And very relaxing, I imagine. I've felt more relaxed since doing a bit of calligraphy - we all need something to absorb us during these strange times.

    1. Something to absorb us, yes! I tried calligraphy once but my own handwriting kept appearing instead of calligraphy!

  6. That is certainly detailed. Sounds like a good group project.

    1. It would be a good group project, like having a jigsaw available for various people to dabble with.

  7. It is a very good photo and really catches the concentration. I was actually going to say that I've not tried painting but I do jigsaws and my wife and I used to keep one on the go and dabble when we felt like it. I've started the habit again since lockdown last February (although I am now the sole dabbler).

    1. I used to really hate jigsaws, I wonder if I've grown out of that. There are some wonderful designs out there

  8. I did a few paint-by-numbers when I was a kid. But even with such assistance, my artistic skills were pretty dire. I think your artists in residence is doing a better job than I would manage!

    1. It doesn't really need artistic talent, just a steady hand. You might surprise yourself, Nick

  9. OMG I didn't know they were still available. I remember painting a few back in the day. I love the photo!

  11. With my right ulnar palsy, such pastimes are just not my cup of tea though I would love to take a shot at that picture. We have similar kits available just across the road from our home.

    1. I didn't know you have a palsy, these things are inconvenient but especially if it's the dominant hand. I don't think I have ever seen paint by number in the shops but then again< i don't go to shops very often
