The great pre-Christmas tidy -up meant that I put my laptop away and didn't get it out again to wish you all the best for the Festive Season so I am sorry about that and I hope you all had a lovely time.
We had a very nervous week after Briony found that she had been exposed to covid, we stayed home as much as possible and got tested. In the end, all the tests (and there were many) were negative so we went ahead with a Christmas lunch with the family.
It was a simple affair: cold turkey and ham from the deli, potato salad, Greek salad, vegan roast with cranberry sauce, pesto pasta, fruit salad, coconut ice-cream, mince pies, tiramisu and punch. I can cook but I mostly prefer not to be overwhelmed by kitchen stuff when I have guests. Is that contradictory?
Boxing day was at my sister's place and the 27th was the day of binge watching "Detectorists" which I recommend.
It looks and sounds wonderful. I am so pleased the tests came back negative and that you could enjoy time together.
ReplyDeleteEC, There were a vast number of people who didn't do so wellwith test results. We got lucky.
ReplyDeleteGlad you all avoided covid and were able to celebrate Christmas together. We spent it with family, 14 of us, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that no one had covid.
ReplyDeleteOperation is a fun game. :D
Isn't it amazing the things grown children tell you about what went wrong in their childhood!
ReplyDeleteIt would be much more fun entertaining if the cooking and cleaning were done by someone else. I understand!
The dog on the sofa says it all!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good day. As soon as Christmas is done with I start itching to get the decorations down and to have a good tidy up.
Sx
I see why everyone is sitting on the floor. If you look at the couch somebody is taking up the whole think for himself!
ReplyDeleteI love that you finally got Operation! I did that with my adult son who felt rained on that he never got Magic Shell ice cream topping when he was a kid!
ReplyDeleteA happy snap, Kylie.
ReplyDeleteFrosty tree, piano, umbrella for that sudden monsoon, sleepy dogs.
And the Young Ones quiet and content, not quarrelling.
This is Christmas in the sunny South, which we spoke about in awe.
*Imagine,* we would say, spinning the globe of the world, *it's a heatwave in Australia !*
I am only seeing this thanks to the internet and my laptop, the most extraordinary box of tricks; a toy I never dreamed about in childhood.
I often think how my father would have enjoyed YouTube films about the world; he died in his 80s in 2000, just when they were laying the internet cables in our streets.
Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy 2022 to you and your children.
Jack (John) Haggerty
Glad to know the covid scare didn't last long and you could go ahead with the family dinner as planned. I hope your new year gets off to a good start.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't sound like simple fare to me but a positive feast. So glad you enjoyed it all. I DID buy one of my daughters Operation, we had such fun with it.

Lovely Kylie, and wise not to cook on Christmas Day I think.
ReplyDeleteLL cool Joe,
ReplyDeleteI had eight people here but four of us live here. There were 14 at my sister's place. Nobody has symptoms yet!
PP,
My girls do a LOT to help with cooking and cleaning so I try to make sure I don't take their help for granted.
Ms Scarlet,
I'm happy to have the tree up until New Year. In the past we sometimes went on holidays on boxing day, the tree looked hideously out of place by the time we'd been away for a week!
Anne,
It's called Ice Magic here and my kids didn't get it either ;)
Jack,
The internet was in it's infancy in 2000, your Dad would have needed to live a bit longer to appreciate things like video and photos. I think my first ever internet package was 500Mb per month!
I hope you had a lovely Christmas and Happy Hogmanay to ya!
Nick,
ReplyDeleteThe covid drama went on for a week and that's not long compared to the dramas other people have with it but knowing Briony's exposure was over many hours in close quarters meant we were almost certain she would be positive. A happy 2022 to you and Jenny!
WWW,
Operation with chocolates for breakfast was a hit!
Michelle,
It was the best organised and least exhausting Christmas I have ever had, I think

ReplyDeleteHarry's bed is so huge, it's a pest to move so he uses the couch instead!
