In honour of Mark's birthday I stole some questions from my favourite weekend newspaper and interviewed him.
In the paper it's called:

Your Time Starts Now:

My earliest memory is...playing cowboys and indians with my 2 BROTHERS and 2 SISTERS who are all younger than me. My dad used to work as a presser in the rag trade and made my sisters' Indian dresses. They had leather fringes along the seams and around the hems. I had a cap gun and my brothers had cap rifles.

At school I...was always falling asleep during the Geography lesson. Mr van Vliet used to creep up on me and bang a one yard wooden ruler on my desk to wake me up!

My most treasured possession is... my collection of die cast model cars. All old Holdens!

My mother and father always told me...that I made their lives a misery.

I wish I had... completed High School.

I wish I hadnt... smoked my dad's pipes. I ruined two of his precious pipes and was belted to within an inch of my life

At home I cook...only when I have to and then it's mostly grilled or boiled.

My most humiliating moment was... when my bathers came off while swimming at a public swimming pool.

My last meal would be... roast lamb with all the trimmings. (Sorry Helen and Suzanne!)

My favourite gadget is...the one that I haven't got yet.

I'm very bad at... remembering people's names.

When I was a child I wanted to...be an architect.

It's not fashionable but I love...flannelette shirts.

Friends say I am... likeable but moody.

Cat or dog? Dog.

My greatest fear is...being unable to walk.

The hardest thing I've ever done...going for a job interview.

I often wonder...what would have happened in my life if I hadn't left my first job as a junior clerk stamping invoices all day.

Happy Birthday, Mark !!

  3. WOW!! (grinning from ear to ear)

Thank you so much, Kylie for this terrific post. You did an amazing job. I really like the pics that you have included; especially the boy in the cowboy outfit :)
It's so nice to be able to celebrate my birthday with all of my friends.

My family actually started my birthday celebrations yesterday.
Helen was playing in the Southern Area Brass Band along with the "Choir of Hard Knocks." I don't know if people overseas have heard of that choir but there will be more info in a Post from either Jo or Helen.

    I love youse all!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO

ps. I sneaked a peep before work!!

  4. Kylie, this is fabulous! I'm still laughing. It's such a wonderful way to welcome a birthday and celebrate a friend. I absolutely LOVE the concept!!! You are so cool. Seriously. And Mark is a riot. I have so much to think about but I haven't had my CAT Scan yet, so don't know how much my brain is still capable of!!! I'll have to wait until the test results are back and I know it's safe to think with out exploding something!

Honey, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop by the Cafe. Bindi has outdone herself. The bash she has put on for Mark in insane. I'm writing from the sofa and I don't think I'm leaving the whole week! Really. You'll see.

Bindi wouldn't allow beer at first so I told Mark I placed some under the table near the salad and I'll be damned it Bindi didn't come back with a big bucket of gorgeous beer for Mark!!! That's our gal!

Love you my dear and thank you for such an amazing post. What a wonderful birthday surprise for Mark on his special day.

    XO Suze ;)

  8. John,
Great to hear from you on my Birthday.
Yes the choir was in fine voice, I wish i could convey my feelings of the afternoon only to say that I was immensely proud of our Helen playing along with the band to an audience upwards of 300. Really that was the best birthday present!
BTW:John Michael Howson was the MC for the afternoon. He said that it took him back to the days when Hector Crawford used to put on a Pleasant Sunday Afternoon at the Bowl.

    Mark.
ps. Please convey my best wishes to your wife and when you next see Kylie would you give her a great big hug from me?

  10. Mark,
I'll try and carry out your wishes.
It's been a cultural change for me to realize someone is now a kookaburra and not a Bomber!

I spent, like your Helen, playing my cornet in concerts over the w/e near Newcastle or Maitland. I play with the Sydney Salvos Veteran's Band. It's about 50 men strong ... pure brass.

I think our men's hockey team are the Kookaburras. Good name anyhow.

  11. @john,
It is great that you are still playing music. It's better than joining the white shoe brigade at the local lawn bowls club!
(Although I have played pennant lawn bowls, regularly, but not now.)

..and yes the Aussie men's hockey team is the Kookaburras - "hockey 1, hockey 2"

It is a bit weird being Kookaburra and not Bomber - but I wanted to change my Blog Title.
However once a Bomber, always a Bomber!

have you had a change of heart on blogging?

  14. Kylie,

That comment to CSI was too funny. You never pull a punch.

Where the hell are you!!!??? You missed Bindi's amazing celebration for Mark. Knock it off. There's enough chocolate for everyone! And of course there's room on the sofa. Knock it off! If you don't show up soon I swear to God I'll come over there and drag you to the party. That won't look pretty coming in the front door. This is a family establishment you know.

    Love you!
    Suze XO

  15. Well, finally. The princess shows up. Good Lord. Too funny. Who gives a crap what everyone else says, what you say matters! If you don't show up, the party just starts. When you show up the party is insane. KNOCK...IT...OFF! You always underestimate your worth. I couldn't live without you now, so no party is a party without you. We all agree. Right everybody?!

Kylie's here and Mark's birthday is about to begin. Will someone please get Cece out from underneith the fodue? The woman's insane.

    Love you to death baby!

    XO
