Why do I Blog?

Well, my last post was to answer a question asked by David and this is to answer a question asked by Peter so my immediate answer is: I blog to answer questions, which is probably my forte, given that I have four kids who all ask amazing questions. One of the recent interesting ones was "Can a boy be born with two penises?"
Do you know? I don't but I expect it has happened. I digress though.....

My very first post "The Challenge" kind of explains why I blog: because someone dared me to, basically.
I blog because I have a pathological need to be heard.
My friends and family have lives to lead so I say what I want to say here. Even before I had readers I blogged in the hope that someone was hearing. Maybe I don't need to be heard, maybe I just need to "say", maybe I just blog because I love the sound of my own voice?

I blog because it's a hobby that costs nothing, because I can stop to deal with homework emergencies or sibling nastiness. I blog because I can do it at anytime and I don't have to leave the house, don't have to get to a class or a shop or a meeting. I blog because I like to string a few words together.

Probably the biggest reason I blog is the one I didn't know existed....the people. Cool, funny, supportive, positive.........

That's you folks :)

and by the way: thanks for your comments that I haven't replied to, time seems short right now and I really wanted to post (see above...did I hear someone say something about narcissism?)

  1. Honey-pie, sweetie-kins, squidgy-pie,

Maybe you do like the sound of your own voice - but none of us can hear it directly! Wonder if we'd be able to record something and then put it on the blog....a video blog - now there's an idea.....

    luv ya hunny-pot.

  2. Its a good hobby blogging! Time wasting but therapeutic! Compulsive maybe! Comments are meaningful and its lovely to get to know people. Its a unique extension of ourselves.

  3. OK, this time more than just "Hi Kylie." It's ironic that you brought up the subject because I was thinking about a similar topic for my blog today. (Darn you, now I need a good idea).

Anyway, part of my mind does it to get some things off my chest which I wouldn't normally reveal. Apparently yelling at the defective dishwasher wasn't helping my mental state. Honestly, how supportive can kitchen accessories be? Oh yeah, blogging is cheaper than Jack Daniels too.

The other side of my altered mind uses the blog to exercise my frustrated writer/author for others to actually read. Which side of the mind you're going to get on any given day is a surprise, even to me.

I'd suspect my blog will never have a great number of loyal readers because it's not one or the other. Those looking for creativity and fun will get turned off by the depressive times, and readers looking for the introspective stuff will pass because of the mildly funny irreverent material.

Oh yeah... Hi kylie, Suzanne, RC, Cecile, Gig, and everyone else.

  4. Moonbeam,

    Hi Bob!
    Hi Peter!
    Hi Maggie May!

Man, I thought I commented on your last post, so looked for a reply only to realize I must have deleted before posting for some reason. Imagine that. Just so you know, I loved that post. This one too. Especially when you said:

"Probably the biggest reason I blog is the one I didn't know existed....the people. Cool, funny, supportive, positive........."

Yup, that's us! I can't stop smiling. Why I started to blog? I'm going to have to give that some thought. I'll get back to you. But why I stay? It's because of all of you.

    Love you,
    XO

  5. G'day Kylie,
Well ... there you go ... you have gazumped me! :(

I had an idea floating around for the past few days for everyone to look back at their first Posts and remind themselves of their first words in Blogger. Then they had to look for the first Post that got a comment and see if the person who commented is still on line.

I am still your mate, but :)

i blog as the mood takes me and my regular readers seem to think it's ok...do what you want because if you don't it's not authentic and that makes it meaningless

  11. Hi Kylie! I love this blog too. You're a really good writer. As for me and why I blog--I'm not quite sure yet. And I still feel a bit guilty when I do it, I'm not sure why that either. Maybe that's part of its charm...

    xoxo Leah

  13. So....can a boy be born with two penises because I'm guessing you're like me and googled it, didn't you?

I blog because I crack myself up. I don't always write amusing and creative stuff but when its funny and I laugh writing it I hope it makes others laugh as well.

Answering others questions would make blogging so much easier as I would have a place to start with my sarcastic dialog.

  16. Getting to know people from around the world has been a fun part of blogging. Blogs are like the bulletin board over my desk. I have pictures, stickers and trinkets, which reflect my interests. A blog is like a big bulletin board for all to enjoy.

From the cool, funny, supportive and positive guy,

    Brian

  17. Special,

I got the cheque, honey, but it wasn't enough to cover my expenses. I need another one for double.

    Bindi,
Squidgy = soft and squashy, a bit like jelly (or jello as the Americans say!). So, squidgy-pie is just another little cute nickname that people sometimes call each other....like honey-pie, sweetie-pie etc.

  18. Hi Kylie! Just stopping by to see what the latest news is. A baby born with two penises? Well, that is a strange one, but I guess you're right, it could happen. Bindi's observation about a squidgy-pie kind of scare me though. It does sound like something seafood-ish.

    Best wishes,
    Skeeter

  19. I started blogging to sell my book. Which is still for sell by the way, you can click on the link on my blog for the info. But the reason I blog is because I love you guys and can't get enough of you. Simple as that.

  20. Well, Hello! Suzanne invited me over to see you -- hope you don't have any "no foreigners rule" around here. : ) I am new to the blog-o-whirl and I happened upon Suzanne through a garden tour. ANYWAY ... I find your ideas so intriguing (and I am learning some new lingo, too). Just yesterday I picked up my journal (yes, I still do the pen and paper thing with those deep thoughts that I don't want to hang out for the world to examine closely -- I'm not that brave or mature yet, I guess) and asked myself why I blog, all the while dancing around the narcissist issue. How great to find your spot on the web and see that the same ideas are flying around in other peoples' head(s). Best of all ... you just laid all the reasons out on the table for examination and you didn't cloak them in a bunch of excuses or apologies. I LOVE THAT!!! I definitely have some more reading to do around here. Mind if I just wade in and swim around? *splash!* : )
p.s. Your prayer site is precious. So necessary in our world of hurt, pain, and confusion. God bless you.
