the vehicular ferry across the hawkesbury at wiseman's ferry

i'm just back from a three day roadtrip with the kidlets. we had a good time and the experience was full of lessons

  • the shops in tiny towns can't be relied on to stay open until their advertised closing time

  • nor can they be relied on to open at the advertised time

  • dont expect to travel in a westerly direction on a winter afternoon, if you do, dont expect to enjoy it

  • roadside barbecue areas are a great invention, must make better use of them

i also remembered how much i love to drive

  1. Kia ora Kylie,
Congratulations and well done. A blogging friend once wrote me that most blogs, appear and last less than a year before dissappearing, so 500 posts represents a fair amount of writing, and also stimulation to write through knowing people are indeed out there reading. You have created a fine community at your place here. I always enjoy my visits.

  3. I miss ferries like the one in the photo. There's still one left in Oregon though.

"dont expect to travel in a westerly direction on a winter afternoon, if you do, dont expect to enjoy it"

Because of the sun in your eyes?

  4. A lot of small villages in the UK still have an early closing day once a week, and there's no consensus on which day it is. So you can find yourself in some place where all the shops are unexpectedly closed and you can't buy anything at all.

But glad you enjoyed your trip. And congrats on the 500!

  5. hi bob!!

    snow,
i dont remember travelling on a ferry like that one ever before. i have been on the ferry from butterworth to penang in malaysia but it was way bigger.
and yes, the sun! i drove a wonderful road called the "bells line of road" but couldnt enjoy it because of the constant glare. it was a massive disappointment, not to mention uncomfortable.

    nick,
i guess wiseman's ferry is a UK relic, then :)
    what a pest

  7. Don't listen to Putz (on this occasion, at least)! 500 means that you've had enough practice that you're good to blog in earnest.
