and the one you didnt ask for.....

i get worried when the conversation turns to music. i dont know a whole lot of popular music, whatever popular music is, top forty i guess.....
i know songs when i hear them but i dont know who plays/sings them and i dont follow top 40, in fact i'm probably showing how out of touch i am just by saying top forty.
i have an ipod i use through a dock at work and every time i put it on i brace myself for the comments. i have a whole lot of latin stuff on there because i worked for a time with a latino who didnt have his own i pod so i put his music on mine and he is long gone but i dont mind the music so it stays but i always have to explain.
there is some rock/pop/soundtracky kinda stuff mostly related to my youth and i would have thought it was pretty average relatable music but that doesnt seem to go down too well either.....
there is some gospel, which i really like but thats kinda weird too and i am just too terrified to play the "highbrow" baroque stuff which i particularly like

so what is the ideal music to play at work?

  3. Why can't you use earphones?

As for type, I'll vote with John (that is if I have to choose), although I should think different styles would be nice.

I've been trying to listen to modern pop music lately, but I don't just find most of it uninteresting; I find it annoying. You mentioned Latin music. I think Hispanic music is the best modern pop that is played here in Oregon.

  6. "snow, you know you got a special mention in the comments of my previous post?"

Am I losing my freaking mind? There are only about six comments, but I still can't find it. I'll come back later. Maybe I'm just tired because I don't think I'm THAT high.

"earphones are considered dangerous by the company and i find them offputting.....isolating maybe."

Do you move around much? Yes, earphones are indeed isolating, but if the option is listening to other people's music, that's not good either.

  7. it's the second comment. i move around mostly within one room and i dont mind other peoples music usually, which is probably why i find it irritating that people have a need to comment on my music.

get y'self a good sleep you old pothead

  8. I find most of the big-name singers like Lily Allen and Lady Gaga extremely boring, but I have my own lesser-known favourites like Lissie Maurus, Fiona Apple and Paloma Faith. I love Hugh Laurie's new album too (Let Them Talk).

  10. I say as long as it doesn't have the "eff" word in it, then no one should be insulted. Bring headphones if they get too nasty about it, and let them bring THEIR iPods with headphones. Problem solved. Of course... the phone might never get answered that way, but hey, at least you are all enjoying your own music!

  12. Can't play music at work, it's too open plan. I used to work in an Art Studio though and we all took turns managing the playlist. Ranged from classical to the Cure. Good times. I guess these days, I emulate the kids and tend to like what they like, then my tastes have always been a little alternative. Listen to what you like

  14. What a great response to this music post. I've played in brass bands ie pure brass, no clarinets, flutes etc and and derived both spiritual and health benefits beside the core pleasure of music making. Studied trumpet for while at Sydney Con. I've had the pleasure of playing many genres from hymn tunes and marches to swing and trad jazzy stuff to overtures and extended compositions for brass band alone. I've even had the opportunity of playing "Hillsong" stuff. Venues yeah Sydney opera House (live and making an album) at the ABC recording studios in East Sydney. Music performance enlivens and heightens your pleasure when hearing the graet performers. I have not earned these priveleges but through being in the right place at the right time
    Cheers

  17. Kia ora Kylie,
It reads to me like you very much know what you like and enjoy listening to. I write, play what makes you smile and disregard simplistic uniformed critisism. Tell them to Listen! Kia kaha.

  18. I sit next to the IT guy so I get to listen to some sort of streaming radio most days. We usually go for 70's-80's because that's fairly innocuous and won't freak out the room.

I know nothing about today's pop music but I like to go with the idea that I'm not SUPPOSED to know, at my age. :)
