but no singing in this plague.

    1. *But no singing/in this plague* raises the question. What will we sing after the plague is gone? Why, we will sing of the plague.

And in singing of it we will heal our memories, mourn the dead, summon the living.
Maracas are enclosed shells, used percussively.
Maracas have a magical usage, evolving from the Tupi language of Brazil.
And in Cuba they are heard in salsa, mambo, guaracha.
Now in this plague they *fill in* for the silenced human voice.

    2. The plague has well and truly entered popular culture, the netflix series Social Distance comes to mind.
It will amuse me, if nobody else to echo your lines to say "In Sydney's Inner West, the maracas are used along with the Christian Music genre, notably Hillsong"

It is really difficult to stand in church and hear the musicians but not join them, percussion instruments were handed out as an alternative. It works.

    3. I would love to hear the maracas played in Sydney's Inner West.
For the last few days I have been following the story of The Seekers on YouTube.
There was a documentary showing Athol Guy returning to the folk club where they first played. I swear, I knew that street, I had been inside the club.
And another film showed the band's reunion for Bruce Woodley's birthday.

Judith Durham's voice echoed all through my school years, and I went to a school reunion in January 2020, which was as much a tonic as The Seekers.
All of which shows the universality of music.
Never in human history have we been so musically eclectic.
There will be other songs to sing, though I may not hear them.
