The blue tarp you see on the car was used to keep dew off the chair overnight. It did the trick and was waiting on the roof to be stowed away for the next leg of the trip.
The toilet block at this place had a mural on the side. Much nicer than a basic concrete block structure. Free camp grounds don't generally have showers so I didn't shower for a few days. The worst part of that was that my hair just gets wilder and wilder if it's not washed or at the very least made sopping wet. I need a solution for the hair situation.
I lost my matches on the first night (I found them when I got home) and couldn't light the stove I had. That meant I couldn't have any coffee. I ate weet bix and yogurt so i didn't go hungry but I also found out the stove I had was only designed for boiling water so I needed to get another one. I drove around and around because google maps seemed to be confused but i eventually found the local outdoors store and got a stove. It's an auto ignition stove but I got myself a lighter as well. Just in case. It took 48 hours but I eventually got organised to heat some canned food.
I think I can say I've solved the stove problem.
Given how often I have to get up, the peeing conundrum could be a bit of a blight.
ReplyDeleteLove the mural on the facilities and I am glad that you worked out the stove issues.
How would a dry shampoo work on your hair? One of the ones you brush in and out?
Yes, the peeing thing is a pest. I get up a lot less now I have cpap.
DeleteMy hair goes extra frizzy from the pillow and the mask and I don't think dry shampoo will help that part. Maybe a water filled spray bottle would do the trick
While I confess to not having a lot of hair, that would be last thing I worry about if I couldn't shower for a few days. I suppose you could wash ok. Would dry shampoo work for your hair? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteAlways keep a lighter in your glove box.
Your meal in the photo looks quite unattractive, but I'm sure it was welcome and tasty.
Btw, thanks for the great tip about Dineamic. It has two shop fronts nearby where I can ask questions and it is easier to buy there rather than have delivered.
Andrew I do love the good fresh after shower feeling but a wash is adequate in winter.
DeleteThe meal was not what I'd choose to eat at home but it was easy and with canned food being precooked it's really quick to just heat. I had cheese first and chocolate after so I got some good stuff 😋
I'm glad I was able to make a useful suggestion
LOL good stuff, cheese and chocolate. My idea of good stuff, too. I was going to suggest a spray bottle of water. But would that not be too cold for winter? I could never get out of that chair, but it looks like a good chair. I have found that many little bags in a larger one keep me from plundering around in stuff, just mixing it up further. I can use quart or gallon storage bags or small zipper bags I have around the house. Getting up to pee would just keep me awake after a walk to potty. There are these tall tent things, cabanas, that people use for changing or showering. I have always thought that a portable potty of some sort in a cabana would work for me. I would station it right outside the car, maybe tie it to the car. You have to understand I have never camped in my life, just thought about it a lot for an emergency situation.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
DeleteThe cabana things are probably a good solution in most cases but I think I'd be lacking the balance to wrangle one.
A spray bottle would be unpleasant but it's a short term unpleasant: maybe I could do that.
I used to camp and enjoy it. These days I like life to be a bit more comfortable but I'll camp as a means to an end
I remember I considered car camping but xnayed it then I bought a used small caravan and it sat unused in my driveway for several years. I am NOT a camper by any stretch of the imagination but I have fantasized about it forever.
ReplyDeleteHats off to you for actually doing it. The hair thing would bother me too, more than the lack of shower thing.
And I'd be demented from the night peeing.

DeleteI've thought about a teardrop camper, which might be good for sleeping in but towing brings other issues like tow bars and jockey wheels and backing a trailer and not being able to park in a standard parking space and having to level the thing....
What you really did is get some experience. It's challenging to camp with such a small place. You don't have a place to put anything. Keep on going out. You will find some very friendly campers.
ReplyDeleteyes Red, I knew I was trialling something new and i sure got some experience! I consider it a success
DeleteYou seem to have been improvising very successfully. The mural on the toilet block is wonderful. Yes, nobody needs to shower daily unless they sweat like crazy or they're working in some filthy job.
ReplyDeleteI like to shower daily but if there'sno shower I can make do.
DeleteMeanqueen does car camping regularly in the uk. You should read her blog. Life After Money.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Rachel! I'll have a look at Meanqueen
