the swirl of stuff in my head

it's school holidays here again and we're renting lots of dvds to keep the kidlets occupied while i bust my butt at work. next week will bring a change of pace because the governing body for our industry (TGA) are making their audit visit and i have been asked not to work more than a couple of days, too much of a loose canon?
masterchef has grabbed my attention as far as tv is concerned and soups are my current favourite food, not so much for the eating but for the cooking. potato and onion soup was this week's special, it makes a change from pumpkin.

and the real news of the week is about my foot. it's been a long story but i had a pressure ulcer for some months, getting appropriate treatment was harder than i expected and i started to despair of it ever healing. the ulcer itself didn't bother me because i couldn't feel it but an unhealed ulcer can lead, at extremes, to severe infection, surgery and amputation. eventually, with the help of my new best friend, podiatrist anthony, the ulcer healed but the story wasn't over. after such a long time it was necessary to check for bone destruction and there was a long wait for the MRI followed by another wait to see the specialist for results.
it was sydney's coldest day in 61 years when i set out to see doctor garth and he was worried that his american visitors would be feeling it.
i wasn't worried about garth's visitors, my foot was fine!!
the day was clear and bright and i celebrated with a take away coffee before work

well, that's it from me. masterchef calls and i'm making a lovely sweet warm comforting indulgent dessert: sticky date sago.

can't wait

the state of things............

sydney tonight is hot, hot, hot and sticky. the girls are reviewing recipes and writing a shopping list ready for their starring role as dessert makers for Christmas day. mini pavlovas and chocolate mousse made the cut, chocolate log and trifle didn't.
i have waged war on cellulitis over the last few days, it has been very painful and a fever added to the unpleasantness but i should be over the hump if i take it easy.
despite having our (very nice) work Christmas party on sunday i'm not feeling too Christmassy. i wonder when that will happen?

as each Christmas comes and goes and i consider the birth of Jesus i wonder whether there are any new ideas for me to digest this time round. today i'm thinking that in two thousand years not much has changed: Jesus was both a refugee and a middle eastern youth at different points in his life and both are still unpopular with some sections of society......
i'm not sure where i'm going with that so feel free to fill in the gaps

and i'm gonna quit while i'm ahead
g'night :)

small things amuse small minds, i suppose

by the way, i'm reading all your posts but for once don't have much to say. last week's flu took a toll and the cellulitis is back in my foot. yay, more antibiotics
actually yes, yay for antibiotics or i might not have my foot at all

this is the day that the Lord has made
let us rejoice and be glad in it

calling for volunteers

you are going to have to be patient listening to my tales of illness, not because i love being sick but because it is the most interesting thing to happen to me for a while. i have a cannula, something like this one, right in the bend of my elbow. on my right arm. it means i cant bend my elbow properly and now, as well as a gammy leg i have a crook arm. it makes it hard to do lots of stuff but what i really need is someone to clean my teeth, do my hair and wash my underarms :)

thanks for your well wishes. i love youse all xx
