love fest

hi there
when i woke up and checked blogdom this morning (some 15 hours ago) i noticed that Mr C over at "The thoughts of a special needs teacher" had a rather excellent post up. as i went about my morning it was on my mind to pimp him a little and i went back to leave a comment only to find that in the interim he had, in fact, written a post pimping me! it was beginning to look like a love fest, which by the way, yields some interesting results when you do a google image search

now, i had really hoped to write a theme thursday post but i am getting a bit short of time given that we only have 75 minutes of thursday left in this part of the world and i would rather like to be in bed before that. i still need to shower and tidy the kitchen so i reckon i'm pushing it just a tad and in the middle of a wet and cold sydney winter i'm not too inspired about summer
i think if one was to have any real kind of a love fest summer would be the time, though, dont you? i mean, you know,
the sun,
the flimsy fashions,
the mangos (sexy or what?),
the seafood (oysters!),
the beach..............................
BRING. IT. ON.

Halloween Dream

hey there all,

i haven't been posting or commenting this week. i think i'm a bit tired and just couldnt give a tinkers toss about anything much. as usually happens when i'm in that kind of a mood the inspiration pretty much dried up........
i had a very odd dream last night, it's pretty much R rated so cover your eyes, mum.

in this dream i was at a party of some sort, in a familiar kind of house that i cant identify exactly. i was dressed kind of average for me, in what might be called a classy soccer mum style (i'm not usually too classy but i was at a party, remember?) anyway, i fitted in nicely with the rest of the average, suburban crowd in the average suburban house.
i decided i wanted to go home and was looking for my hubby. he wasnt in the kitchen, not the bathroom, not the lounge or near the barbeque......

i opened a bedroom door and found a number of middle aged people grotesquely decked out in black pvc. right in the middle there was square looking man in a white singlet, only a white singlet, um, going for it, with a less than attractive woman in black.

he started to speak to me but i didnt hear him. i shut the door just as my jaw hit the floor.

I'm a bit short of words this week so just have a look at some more pics while I think of something to say

This one is a favourite of mine, the purple is so rich and has the added bonus of reminding me of some purple loving friends.......

It also reminds me of a funny saying of my brother's : "Purple is the colour of sexual frustration"

Make of that what you will !

Angela's Ashes

Bindi tagged me, the rules being to quote the first five sentences of page 123 of the book I'm reading. I'm not a great reader these days so it's lucky I have something to quote:

At night three of us sit under the light pole at the top of the street reading, Mikey, Malachy and I. The Molloys are like us with their father drinking the dole money or the wages, leaving no money for candles or parrafin oil for the lamp. Mikey reads books and the rest of us read comic books. His father , Peter, brings books from the Carnegie Library so that he'll have something to do when he's not drinking pints or when he's looking after the family anytime Mrs Molloy is in the lunatic asylum......

Angela's Ashes was a Pulitzer prize winner over 10 years ago, so I expect it's probably familiar territory to many. If you haven't read it you should.

Tonight I don't want to think too hard so I'm going to tell you just one thing I liked about the book.
I came across a euphemism I've never heard before: "the excitement". It's clever because it can be used a couple of ways: his excitement refers to a piece of anatomy, the excitement is an act.

It's a wonderful bit of English. Bonking, screwing, shagging or (worst of all) rooting are quite descriptive of a senseless, cold, possibly one-night-stand style of activity. Making love is a perfect description of, um, making love but when overused it belittles the whole concept. "Doing the excitement" is a great way to talk about a type of sex that's affectionate, respectful but not neccessarily an expression of love.

I haven't talked about the quote at all, I know. I will. It's harrowing stuff to think about though so another day, eh?

love to all

Sex and Housework

Ah, now this is a post I've had in mind for ages.
I keep seeing media reports telling men that there's some new study out which confirms that if they did more housework they'd get more sex.
It annoys me intensely.

Obviously lots of academics do lots of in depth studies to get this information but (and it's not the but you expect) it's missing the point.

Yes, if fellas did more housework their women would be less tired and perhaps more in the mood.
Yes, if women felt less burdened and less resentful they might feel more like a bit of partying.

So whats wrong with this theory? Its not all about housework.
A bloke needs to find out what his girl needs and give her that.I may be the only woman on earth who doesn't find a man doing housework a turn-on but I doubt it.

I read a book called "The Five Love Languages" It basically explains that people express love and feel loved in five ways:

  • physical touch
  • quality time
  • gift giving
  • acts of service
  • affirmation

We all like all of them and we should all use all of them but everybody has a preference.

Housework is an act of service, so for a woman who wants affirmation the housework might be appreciated but it might also fall short of a turn-on. Sweet nothings, anyone?

On the other hand, if your sweetie favours acts of service as her love language a bit of washing up might be just what the doctor ordered !

I wouldn't want to discourage guys from pulling their weight on the domestic front and full on laziness will eventually be an irritation to anybody but I wish that housework wouldn't be presented as the Holy Grail. It's just not that simple.

Use all of the love languages and mostly use the one that is preferred by your partner.

PS: If the theory of love languages here doesn't give enough info post a comment....don't forget, someone wrote a whole book about it so my basic overview is bound to be a bit less than adequate.

OOLF: Mediterranean Chicken tonight...one to do again.
