Vegetarians, Look Away
It was Mother's Day, two days past the forcible extraction of my tooth and we were on the way home from church. Liam knows all the places so he offered to buy me Greek food from a nearby restaurant. I reminded him that I wasn't really eating normal food so he decided an HSP would be a better bet.
For a couple of years now the kids have been talking about the iconic HSP but it has passed me by.
Yes, this is it, my Halal Snack Pack: hot chips, shaved meat, cheese and garlic sauce (cheese is an extra, sauces range from chilli to barbecue to tomato) This HSP is seen in it's natural habitat, a car.
I lost my HSP virginity (and yes, HSP virginity is "a thing") on Mother's Day. Kind of appropriate, don't you think?

Pauline wouldn't approve. Even as a vegetarian I do. I hope that you enjoyed it - and I know my partner would.
ReplyDeleteIt is unhealthy comfort food at it's best. I would normally try to have something healthier but in that moment it was perfect.
DeleteAnd a big Pfffftt to Pauline :)
Agreed. And knowing that she would not approve would add extra savour.
DeleteIndulging once in a way is perfectly justifiable. And on Mothers' Day, but of course one must. Incidentally, the first time I am hearing about HSP!
ReplyDeleteRamana,
DeleteI am thinking it is probably an Australian invention, other parts of the world have much more sophisticated street food
I wouldn't mind the hot chips!
ReplyDeleteThe photo looks like some rather exotic dessert....
It would be a very expensive box of chips, Nick! How about the cheese and garlic sauce, you wouldn't have those?
DeleteI thought it was something with chocolate and whipped cream. Who is Pauline? On Mother's Day, you should be able to eat anything you want.
ReplyDeletePauline is a politician, infamous for her anti-immigration rants and poor vocabulary. She is especially relevant here because she owned a fish & chip shop before entering politics.
DeleteI would happily eat chocolate and whipped cream any day!
In a Muslim eating place, I wonder if it would be possible to request non-halal meat as halal slaughters are rather cruel.
ReplyDeleteI seriously doubt it would be possible to order non-halal meat, it would be easier to keep the whole kitchen halal. I wasn't aware that halal slaughter was worse than any other. I probably won't be getting one again, it was a once in a lifetime kind of thing
DeleteI have to admit that looks tasty although way too much for me! I thought it was only Americans that served massive portions!
ReplyDeleteIt was unusually enormous, I only had about a third of it
DeleteOh my gosh that looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI might get tired of it if I had it too much but it was very nice, easy to eat, suitably salty and fatty and best of all, I didn't have to cook it :)
